[Patch] Enable Profile Creation on Activation Bypassed Device (1.4.5)

I just wrote this patch based on a request from a fellow webOS developer. What this requires is:

1) You must have already run the Palm Activation Bypass Tool
2) You must have already set up WiFi
3) Apply this patch and the patch to make the First Use app visible (inside Preware) and then restart Luna. After that, just open the First Use app and follow the instructions


Note that this is untested but it is the exact modification recommended by webOS Internals, and I've used the code (but not the patch) before (about 5 times).

Yes, you can download apps from the App Catalog if you use this patch on an activation bypassed device.

Note that I don't know the exact nature of geofiltering when this takes place as I live in the USA and I've used it only within the USA. I did note that my AT&T dev phone has 1 less app available than my Sprint personal device has, but I don't know if that is due to being activation bypassed (unlikely) or just AT&T blocking an app/Sprint having a special app in the Catalog (likely).

Later on, because I'm on my netbook and I didn't install the emu here yet.

I'd create a new profile because if I use my actual profile I risk of wiping my Pre

This worked excellent on my Pre 2, but First Use doesn't show up... I've been getting lots of errors whilst updating feeds.

This patch only changes the first use app to enable profile creation.

You need to apply the "Show First Use App" patch as well in order to open the first use app. Or you might be able to just type "First Use" and it may show up.

Your patch worked perfectly but the patch to get the first use app show, didn't on my pre 2, anyone can help? here is the log:

mmm... on the Emu I can't create a profile, and I won't login to my profile, I risk losing all my info on my Pre

That seems to be due to a changed appinfo.json file.

I am looking into what can be done about that, but it seems they renamed "First Use" to "Gesture Tutorial" though it is still the same thing. I don't know if perhaps it shows the gestures only after a profile has been added, and I don't have a Pre2, so I can't test it out.

Maybe you can Just Type the phrase "Gesture Tutorial" and see if you can get in to the First Use setup.

Thanks for your help, I was already thinking about activating my phone with T-Mobile and I did, which means that I could create the profile and now it is working!

I borrowed a SIM card to get my profile created, but now I don't have to be afraid of doctoring.
I'd really hate to have to bug my sister-in-law every time I doctor my phone.

This will come in very handy in the future, I'm sure.

Yeah, I searched for that patch too, and it never showed up even after getting all the feeds updated.

Arthur, does it work on all locales? Cause if it does, it would be nice addition to Preware.
Jack's patch is currently the only ShowFirstUse patch in Preware, and it only works on the root appinfo.json files, not on any of the localized versions under resources.
