    well... contact it :P

    jaja, no

are you sure you can't use internet on your other device???
In my case that notification appeas from time to time... but just when activating Mobile Hotspot.... this is what I observe

    0. Check that IP Forwarding and NAT are enabled
    1. Enable Mobile Hotspot
    2. EV turns white (as if it is in use) ....
    3. Suddenly EV dissapears...
    4. While EV is gone the message about being unable to share connection appears
    5. A few secs after, EV comes back
    6. A few more secs after I can use internet in my laptop

So maybe you should give it a try, wait about 30 secs and try to use internet in your other device :P (as long as IP Forwarding and NAT are enabled in freeTether), I think what happens is that the Radio is being reset for unknown reasons to me :P

what i get with Mytether on wifi
  3. #63
This works great. Thanks to all involved in making this work. This is much better than using mytether, no patching and no having to dr. the phone to get 3D apps to work. I have one question though, can sprint tell if you are using mobilehotspot or does it also look like your useing your phone still? Has anyone confirmed this? Thank you again.

Install one by one with WebOS QI
    us.ryanhope.freetetherd_0.0.3_armv7
    us.ryanhope.freetether_0.0.1_all
    com.palm.app.mobilehotspot_1.0.3_all

    Open freeTether
Check that both options (IP Forwarding and NAT) are ENABLED

    Open Mobile HotSpot
    If first time
    Set SSID
    Set Encryption Type
    Set PassPhrase
    Turn it ON

now I check with my laptop for my PRE's SSID and connect to it
Mobile HotSpot will say that my laptop is connected to my pre
after a few seconds... maybe 30... internet starts working on my laptop

Then I close freeTether and Mobile HotSpot....
    ----------------------------
But if you don't activate IP Forwarding on freeTether, you'll receive an error about being unable to share your connection, contact Sprint
I followed this, it worked flawlessly. Thanks.

Holy heck in a hat! It's working!

I just had to use my Windows (Vista) repair and diagnose tool on the connection and viola!

I am digging the speed too!

Finally got around to trying this out...Personally, I like this method best.

My laptop takes seconds to connect, and the connection is rock solid.

No more jacking around with MyTether, i.e. restarting to get a connection.

As far as MyTether vs. this method using Mobile HotSpot, it's important to consider MyTether only uses WEP while MHS uses WPA...Given that, MHS is more secure.

However, it would be nice to be able to hide your SSID.

Lastly, my speed tests were consistently coming in just over 1 Mb/s (the latency was killing it)...Considering Sprint 3G is only capable of 2 Mb/s, seeing have that right of the bat isn't bad (It reminds me of when broadband first came out).

Works perfectly for me. I have a license for myTether, but may just use this instead.

*cough* I could go on and on about how I will never be supporting Aonic or MyTether (with good reasons), and I know many developers who agree with me.

Anyway, back on topic, yep, MHS does have better wifi, and better yet, it's Palm-designed, so guaranteed future compatibility

com.palm.app.mobilehotspot_1.0.3_all.ipk worked perfectly on my 1.3.5.2 GSM Pre without any modification.

    Excellent job Palm

Would the Unthrottle Download Manager patch make any difference to speed or is the app choking the speed itself?

any reason freetether is not named aonetsuckstehter?

i installed mobile hotspot and have not had any issues mytether doesnt keep a consistent wi-fi connection with my laptop. also i like this because it actually shows as a wi-fi spot and not ad-hoc.. so i can use it for work now too.. my speeds are the same with either connection ( im using the hotspot to post this). i also like the notification area and the fact that it tells you how many devices are connected. my coworker connected to mine ( had it open) and so i shut it down added a wpa key and viola. the camera still works no rebooting and it doesnt break the other apps. I was playing need for speed while tethering ( pretty cool)

I did but i think it was because of myther .. my patch was disabled but still could not get it to work .. so i doctored my phone and just installed the hotspot and freetether.. hate that i have 2 programs but its so much better than the patching and constant resetting. hopefully this will be fixed in future versions

cause I didn't write it. I probably would've called it WeTether Anyway, it's a WebOS-Internals app and best yet, open source
