    I don't know about others, but instead of deleting my Gmail messages, I archive most of them (as Google suggests)
    Grateful if someone could come out with a patch to swipe email from the Inbox and give options to archive/delete/cancel

    somewhere in the gmail pref in email, change the deleted messages 'Trash' to 'All Mail'

    your emails will be archived and not deleted

    Yep - that's what I do. Works great.

    I also use this. Works great for me.

    Open your mail app
    Tap or swipe down at the upper left corner
    go to Preferences and Accounts
    Click your gmail account
    at the bottom it will say "Default Folders"
    Change "Trash" to "All Mail"

    Would be awesome if there were a patch that could replace the trash icon on the bottom right with a nice image of a drawer with the "move to all"-aka-archive-ability while leaving the swipe to delete still functional as deleting to trash!
