You can add a network by and and provide security to connect for networks which do not broadcast their SID. The problem is that once the Pre drops the link, it requires you to reenter the network name and security info before it will attach.
Could a patch be created that would allow you to mark a network as persistent once connected so that wifi will search for the network(s) if unable to find another active network?

I had the same problem when I first started using the Pre. I found the following steps resolved the issue:
    • Open Wi-Fi
    • Delete the known network from the Pre
    • Open Wi-Fi Preferences
    • Tap on Join network
    • In "Join Other Network" enter the name manually (don't select it from the list)
    • Complete by entering security info

I have followed this process with several networks that do not broadcast the SSID and they reconnect every time.

    Good luck.

I went through the same process to establish a work around. Now I would like a permanent fix.
