    The Terminal app in Preware, or novaterm. That's how you get a root shell prompt on the device.
    I maintain the Universal Search Command Line, Hide App Vendors, and Poor Man's Twitter Client patches; the palm-rsync utility; and the rot13 web-distributed app.

    You know what... as someone who does great work and does NOT solicit donations, I want to let you know that I am going to send over a donation later today. This patch alone makes the Pre's Universal Search much more robust and easy to use, especially with the ability to add user-defined searches!

    Keep up the good work, and I am happy to donate!

    The .task/.t and .quicktask/.qt commands are almost complete. Their underlying mechanisms are sort of different from .note and .quicknote, but on the surface they basically do the same thing. One exception: if Tasks is running, .quicktask will bring the task(s) into view.

    Syntax:
    .task task; task; ...
    .quicktask task; task; ...

    Pre-release available: uscl-1.3.5.patch and uscl-tasks-1.3.5.patch

    Just for viewing: uscl-1.3.5.patch.txt and uscl-tasks-1.3.5.patch.txt

    You must install both patch files.

    There's one thing that's not finished yet. I'd like the tasklist (tasks) scene to scroll to one of the newly created tasks if possible. There's a stub method in the TasksAssistant containing some infrastructure and hopefully helpful comments. If someone wants to finish it, that would be nice. I'd rather get this done before submitting for webos-patches, at least for now.

    Code:
    	// This is called when you use Universal Search to create more
    	// than one task. Find a visible task among the ones specified
    	// and scroll to it. We implement it this way because the
    	// present view in the task list may have some or none of the
    	// newly created tasks visible.
    	_scrollToTaskIds: function (taskIds) {
    		Mojo.Log.info("SCROLLTOTASKIDS %j", taskIds);
    		// This is a stub method; ...
    		return;	// remove this line when that's no longer the case.
    		var i, taskId;
    		for (i = 0; i < taskIds.length; i++) {
    			taskId = taskIds[i];
    			// Perhaps we can somehow highlight *all* the tasks
    			// specified temporarily. This loop is for doing
    			// that.
    		}
    		for (i = 0; i < taskIds.length; i++) {
    			taskId = taskIds[i];
    			// If task with taskId is visible, then scroll
    			// to it and return.
    		}
    	},
    I maintain the Universal Search Command Line, Hide App Vendors, and Poor Man's Twitter Client patches; the palm-rsync utility; and the rot13 web-distributed app.

    Will the task capability support adding a due date? That would be ideal!

    Dsevil -- are you familiar with the Quick Event homebrew App? In the opening post of his thread ( http://forums.precentral.net/homebre...ml#post1822838 ), he has a patch that integrates his app with the Universal Search functionality. Is there any way to easily incorporate that within your Patch? Or, is there an easy way to add that code to the user-defined file that we can load ourselves?

    Thanks again for all your work!
    Adam

    P.S. on a side note, just sent over a small donation for all your work..sorry it couldn't be more!

    i was getting the same errors and to fix it all i did was use WQI to reinstall the patch for command line and then after restarting luna, i used preware (not EPR) to remove the patch manually. After that i ran EPR (on Preware) to be sure my phone was "clean" and then I reinstalled all my patches with no issue. I'm assuming that reinstalling the patch replaced all the missing files that we see in the ipkg log and after that it had the files to remove in preware. Hope this helps someone.

    This is awesome! It's like Launchy for webOS! Thanks!

    I don't have a webOS phone yet to use it, but I know it'll become really helpful for me, because I rely heavily on Launchy for Windows.

    Anyway, I'm assuming I can add my own sources editing the uscl.json file, right? If I'm not mistaking, I should do something like this to get Flickr search:

    Code:
    		"Flickr": {
    			"title": "Flickr",
    			"usage": "<var>flickr</var>",
    			"example": "nice photography",
    			"description": "Welcome to Flickr - Photo Sharing",
    			"url": "http://www.google.com/m/search?client=ms-palm-webOS&channel=iss&q=site:flickr.com%20",
    			"noArguments": {
    				"url": "http://www.flickr.com/"
    However, I don't get how it'd detect where to put the search term, because on Flickr, it's: Flickr: Search[term]. Am I missing something?

    Also, maybe it could be useful, but Launchy works it like:

    Name: Flickr
    URL: http://flickr.com/
    Query: search/?q=%s

    This is what you want:

    Code:
    "url": "http://www.flickr.com/search/?q="
    USCL appends your query string to the value of the url property (after encoding it using encodeURIComponent).

    Some sites don't have a useful search engine on their own; we simply do a Google search: "site:example.com" (without quotes) followed by a space then your query string.

    Honestly I don't know why I didn't think of Flickr.

    I've been working on this, but I've allowed myself to get sidetracked by Hide App Vendors and rot13 though. I'll get back to USCL eventually once a showstopper issue with Hide App Vendors gets resolved.

    Awesome! So I can add any site that have a useful search engine? I think I get it, but wouldn't Engadget be:

    Code:
    "url": "http://www.engadget.com/search/?q="
    ?

    Also, can I delete any service I wouldn't like to use? For example, Beeradvocate. Do I have to delete from the file, and that's it?

    Finally, I'd like to have the letters in white, is it possible?

    Yea, i love this patch because you can add your own searches... here are a couple that i added for youtube mobile, fatwallet.com and tv.com:

    Code:
    {
    	"entries": {
    		"yt": {
    			"title": "YouTube",
    			"usage": "<var>keywords</var>",
    			"example": "palm pre review",
    			"description": "Find videos on youtube.com.",
    			"url": "http://m.youtube.com/results?is_adult=True&hl=en&gl=US&client=mv-google&q=",
    			"noArguments": {
    				"url": "http://m.youtube.com/"
    			}
    		},
    		"youtube": "yt",
    		"fw": {
    			"title": "Fatwallet",
    			"usage": "<var>keywords</var>",
    			"example": "Palm",
    			"description": "Find deals on fatwallet.com.",
    			"url": "http://www.fatwallet.com/coupons-cash-back/#/search=",
    			"noArguments": {
    				"url": "http://www.fatwallet.com/coupons-cash-back/"
    			}
    		},
    		"fatwallet": "fw",
    		"tv": {
    			"title": "TV.com",
    			"usage": "<var>keywords</var>",
    			"example": "highlander",
    			"description": "Find articles on TV.com.",
    			"url": "http://www.tv.com/search.php?type=11&stype=all&tag=search%3Bfrontdoor&qs=",
    			"noArguments": {
    				"url": "http://www.tv.com/"
    			}
    		}
    	}
    }
    also, to remove (or rather hide) certain items, you can use the .hide functionality.. i would suggest you first type ".help" to get the specifics of what the keywords are for that function, (e.g. Beer advocate is .beer or .ba) and then try to do a ".hide beer" and if that doesn't work, try ".hide ba".

    That's really, really nice! I'm pretty sure I'll use this patch more than any app out there. The hide feature will work as I wanted.

    But I have a doubt: what about the utls that don't end with "q="? I mean, what about if it has some settings? For example, to search the latest news in Google News, instead of the default view, it'd be:

    Code:
    http://news.google.com/news?pz=1&ned=us&hl=en&q=[query]&cf=all&scoring=n
    Will it detect it automatically, or it won't work this way?

    Edit: or maybe it's what the Arguments part is used for? Also, I don't quite understand what's the second "url" is for.

    SINCE THE LAST 1.3.5 UPDATE I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RE-INSTALL THE SMS TONE PER CONTACT. I HAVE RAN THE EPR / ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE WITH WQI AND REGARDLESS OF THE RE-INSTALL METHOD, I CONTINUE TO GET THE SAME RESULTS;
    1 OUT OF 1 HUNK FAILED -- SAVING REJECTS TO FILE USR/PALM/APPLICATIONS/COM.PALM.APP...
    1 OUT OF 2 HUNKS FAILED -- SAVING REJECTS TO FILE USR/PALM/APPLICATIONS/COM.PALM.APP...
    REVERSED (OR PREVIOUSLY APPLIED) PATCH
    APPLY ANYWAY?[n]
    1 OUT OF 1 HUNK --SAVING REJECTS TO FILE USR/PALM/APPLICATIONS/COM.PALM.APP...

    PLEASE IF YOU COULD ASSIST ME WITH RESOLVING THIS, I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT
  17. #177
    The installation of USCL (along with the additional CL patch) was OK with Preware. After Luna restart, I just started typing one of my contacts and Universal Search showed me the results as usual. After that, every other time I tried to use US by typing anything it just opened the launcher and there were no search results, no evidence of any character being typed and even the screen remained with the launcher opened (not the usual Universal Search screen).

    For the record, I have to add the following:
    - Mine is a european GSM Pre (Movistar, Spain), obviously localized into Spanish.
    - I had this issue when I first tried to install USCL some days before Webos 1.4 (with 1.3.5.2 GSM) and uninstalled the patches. Everything returned to be OK.
    - After a full deletion of the device I doctored it to 1.4 and I am still having the same issue with USCL.

    Do you have any idea or suggestion about how to proceed with this? Am I missing something?

    TY in advance.

    PS. I can provide you with further details if it helps.

    I have not been able to uninstall or update thecommand line patch. Every time I try to do so I get the message "ErrorGenericMethodException:Failure during pre-remove script execution". How can I get this app off of my phone without doctoring?? Please??

    • Reinstal the patch.

    These files do not exist on a stock Pre, but they're part of the patch. If you uninstall using Preware, those files are either blank or removed (I've never checked) and reinstalling isn't going to cause the double you're seeing. However, I'm guessing EPR and/or the webOS Repair Utility aren't smart enough to remove them. Which means if you install using Preware, remove using EPR/Repair Utility, and install using Preware again, the underlying patch utility appends the contents of those files to those files. I need to talk to dbsooner and see if he can take this into account.
    dsevil -- I am having a problem installing this patch after 1.4.1.1 .... the problem seems to be that the files mentioned above were not deleted so the patch can't reinstall. I posted a link for Jason because webOS QI wouldn't let me delete those files for some reason (post here: http://forums.precentral.net/showthread.php?p=2353047 ), so I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how I can delete these files to reinstall the patch!

    thanks!
