Very nice. With WebOS 1.4.0 it appears this patch is no longer needed. I get similar speeds with 1.4 w/o patch compared to 1.3.5.1 with patch. Also drPodder is downloading podcasts very fast.

This confirms one of the posted improvements for 1.4: "This release improves the speed of downloading applications and files."

In 1.4 the Pre is still throttled to 65k.

If you have a rooted pre you can change the value in /etc/palm/luna.conf.
Find [DownloadManager] and set MaxRecvSpeed to value -1.

After this change, reboot and you have full speed again!

Did it. Vi is not very intuitive but this tutorial told me what I needed https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/S...rial/3.exiting

Also I could not help looking though luna.conf and I saw "allowturbomode=true" did palm overclock our Pres in 1.4?

what's the word? Does this patch help speeds with 1.4 and can it be installed via preware? Thanks for the good work!

Here is an updated patch I won't submit to Preware diomark probably will. I wanted to install it and couldn't wait.

Have the same prob so I changed the lines in luna.conf on my own and it works.
Downloads are as fast as hell...

but the update always pops up in preware and try to always fails...

so if s.o. have a clue instead of doctoring everything new...I would appreciate ;-)

I just installed this patch and didn't notice any huge jump in download speeds before/after in DrPodder.

All I see is a progress bar though, is there a way to actually see the downspeed in kbps?

Has anyone checked how much unthrottling slows down other processes?

I know the Pre is sluggish when receiving large globs of email. Even garbage collecting with JSTop give a few seconds of slow down.

Maybe that is why they throttled it in the first place.

Maybe some bright person should make a patch that changes the allowed download speed based on system load. Or maybe there is a parm that could be set so that the built-in throttle could be managed to give more weight for downloads. Perhaps a new preference.

    Just a thought.

I can't get this one to work anymore. I have used it in the past but now on 1.4 I try it and there is no difference. This is on a full erase and doctor. Any ideas?

Never mind...I had tired everything I read in this forum and figured out it was a couple of "spaces" that I couldn't see in the file...I deleted those and it fired right up.

These Precentral forums are truly the best!!!

is the throttle manager in preware now working correctly or do we still have to change the stuff manually?

same here I don't want to download if it doesn't help
In a world of droid, Pre does it better.

Shouldn't we treat this world like the Garden of Eden and avoid the apple at all costs?

Wish someone would answer this. I don't really see a difference using this patch - things are still slowish on my Pre Plus and am wondering if this even makes a difference anymore.
