Same here with both the patch from this thread and the one that hit Preware (presumably the same ones).

Recommend a solution or another key to bind? Maybe even discuss it with others to get a solution.. but seriously, i just fixed the patch. If the shift caused issues before, its causing issues with selecting text now.

Maybe i'll have that fixed by tomorrow too, if some ideas are put up in the next 8 hrs.

I'm trying to get this app to download. I tried that code from the helpful signature to remove it. It always said error installing, so idk if it's even on my phone. I never can get it installed. The terminal code returned a message line 1: syntax error unexpected. I kept going just to see if it would work. I went to the next part, did all that and again, there was a syntax error new line (unexpected). I entered everything correctly. When trying to download the app from preware, I get

Failed
GenericMethodException:Failure during post-install script execution.
that's the only error I saw. I just can't get it installed... If you could help, please do. I've never done windows live, but if you pm me and ask me to join that for help, i'm not opposed to it as the other guy was. Thanks in advance for helping me. I'm not too pree illiterate. I have terminal, preware, filecoaster, novacommand, and stuff. The webOs on the computer is acting up, so I may need to reboot my pre. So thank you very much in advance.

written on my pre

This patch doesn't interfere with selecting text. Hold shift, and tap a paragraph and text is still selected. Tap shift and it executes page up. I'd actually prefer the "@" symbol to be page up so it's right next to the page down (space bar), but I'm ok with the current config.

I've found an issues with using @, if you hit @ it'll do a page up.. but also appear in the browser bar.

Can't use Sym either..

What about if we do the keys as such:
* Space = top of page
* Enter = page up
* Backspace = page down
* Period = scroll down a line (50 pixels technically).

Original way it was:
* Backspace = top of page
* Enter = bottom of page
* Shift = page up
* Space = page down
* Period = scroll down a line (50 pixels technically).

It gets rid of the "bottom of page", but how many people really need to get there instantly and can't use "page down" ?

Patch
OLD - http://thenxtlvl.com/pre/browser-mul..._1.2.1-8.patch

This fixes:
The mp3 download/stream issue
Allows the use of shift

The keys for this patch is as follows:
* Space = top of page
* Enter = page up
* Backspace = page down
* Period = scroll down a line (50 pixels technically).

I'll be submitting to preware later on, unless i get a huge amount of negative feedback regarding removing the shift to go to the bottom

I have some strong feelings on this, let's see if I can rationalize them here. This is what I'd like to see:

Space = page down
Period = page up
Enter = bottom of page
Backspace = top of page

First, the most critical button here is page down. Most browsing of a web page (especially forums like PreCentral) is page down, page down, page down; so it makes sense that the largest, easiest to access key (centered on the keyboard in both portrait and either landscape) be the space bar. From there, I'd say I'd really want the period to be page up, as I frequently need to go back up a page and that's the closest to where my thumb is from paging down. Anyone who uses Google Reader will understand this need because the user often has to page back up several times after you expand a feed item and it shoves you down the screen too far.

The next two priorities in my book are the top/bottom of the page as often there are menu items that we need to jump to that are located at the top or bottom. Enter for bottom and backspace for top have been working well for those functions.

Regarding the previous button for scroll down by a line... Personally, I didn't use it. If I was reading long columns of text I'd use page down to scroll the page, if I needed to shift the page just a few lines (rare) I'd just use my finger to scroll.

Thoughts? Obviously a user config would be nice but not sure how that can work out. Also, what about a patch to allow a user to scroll in an email via these same controls?

I think removing the bottom page option was a good idea. But it does come in handy when you're at a huge webpage and need to get to the bottom quick. How about gesture+space for bottom of page?
