The webOS Survival Kit

The year is 2013. It's a post-webOS world.

HP has sold off the webOS group, and the buyer has stripped it for the patents, and shut down all the infrastructure needed to support webOS devices.

The HP App Catalog and the Palm Profile servers can no longer be reached.

The @palm and @webOSdev twitter accounts no longer respond. The developer forums are a barren wasteland.

Some people take the easy way out, and simply move to another platform.

Others learn how to survive, using ... The webOS Survival Kit

(Yes, The webOS Survival Kit is the link to the wiki page which you should follow and read now.)

If you have other tips for survival in a post-webOS world, please post them here or edit the wiki page directly to include them.

How ironic that a company webOS was in a way competing against is part of a fail-safe plan in the event webOS gets shut down.

How I wish webOS had a company that was able to provide all it deserves. =(

Yeah, I'd suggest changing the "move to Google" to "move away from webOS profile". Partly because it is a competitor, partly because they are evil

, but mainly because it's more correct as there are alternatives.

even though it might seem obvious, should add a note to do this for all webOS devices they wish to save.

Shift-Reload WebOS Survival Kit - WebOS Internals in your browser to see the latest version. The "Empty Your Profile" section is now third-party neutral, so there is no need to continue discussing it.

Rod,

My biggest concern is backing up paid-for, commercial software from the app-library. In theory, once the app-library goes offline, there's no way to reinstall all the programs one has purchased.

The webOS Survival Kit includes everything you need to be in a position ready for further instructions to be able do that when the eventuality arises.

Obviously, whilst the app catalog is still functioning it is not appropriate to give those instructions.

There's an important step missing. I know it comes up a lot but "donate" should be on that list IMHO.

Thanks for the guide... don't know if it's important, but when emailing the keys from "ShowProperties", there's 2 sets: General Tokens & Comms Board Swap - I emailed both to be on the safe side...
