    Since quite a few people bought AZERTY Pre 3s, I thought it would be worth it to figure out the scancodes and the keycodes, so that anyone not comfortable with the keyboard layout can change it with setkeycodes.
    This thread and the WOSI wiki helped me. The method in the aforementioned thread will probably soon be applicable for the Pre 3 but it has the disadvantage that almost all Opt+Button symbols change and personally I couldn't remember where everything was

    Button/Character | Scancode | Keycode
    Code:
    a 20 16
    b 15 48
    c 13 46
    d 1a 32
    e 22 18
    f 1b 33
    g 1c 34
    h 1d 35
    i 00 23
    j 1e 36
    k 03 37
    l 04 38
    m 05 14
    n 16 49
    o 01 24
    p 02 25
    q 18 30
    r 23 19
    s 19 31
    t 24 20
    u 26 22
    v 14 47
    w 11 44
    x 12 45
    y 25 21
    z 21 17
    . 0b 52
    , 0d 50
    @ 09 11
    Opt 08 ??
    Sym 0c ??
    Backspace 0e 51
    Enter 06 28
    Shift 10 42
    Space 0a 57
    AZERTY -> QWERTY:
    setkeycodes 20 30 A -> Q
    setkeycodes 18 16 Q -> A
    setkeycodes 21 44 Z -> W
    setkeycodes 11 17 W -> Z
    setkeycodes 05 51 M -> Backspace
    setkeycodes 0d 14 , -> M
    setkeycodes 0e 50 Backspace -> ,

    AZERTY -> QWERTZ:
    setkeycodes 20 30 A -> Q
    setkeycodes 18 16 Q -> A
    setkeycodes 25 17 Y -> Z
    setkeycodes 21 44 Z -> W
    setkeycodes 11 21 W -> Y
    setkeycodes 05 51 M -> Backspace
    setkeycodes 0d 14 , -> M
    setkeycodes 0e 50 Backspace -> ,

    The Opt+Button symbols move too.

    So, one could write an upstart script that does all this automatically on startup since the changes are lost when rebooting.

    I tested all this on a AZERTY Pre 3 with language set to German; I don't believe it makes a difference if language is set to something else, but I have no way of testing right now.

    Cheers

    link beneath is no startup script, but shell script which could easily be adapted to the AZERTY schema which involves many more changes than QWERTY to QWERTZ vice versa):
