    Anyone done a PalmCall from a node.jsjsjs $service$ $to$ $get$ $to$ $tweaks$? $Any$ $issues$ $I$ $should$ $be$ $aware$ $of$?

Also, is there a way to test this without putting the patch in Preware? Just want to test in development without having every one see the update in Preware and figure out later the patch is broken.

Preware has been able to install an IPK from the local file system for a long time now.

I was hoping I could just copy the JSON file to a tweaks directory then work on the patch. guess I'll have to do the make.

Oh, I see what you're really asking. OK, then I don't know on that one. I don't use Tweaks so I don't really know that much about the innards of it. Not on this level, anyway.

Still, it doesn't hurt to test the whole process...

Yes you can just copy the tweaks file into the tweaks directory where the other json files are. And it will work just fine.

Is tweaks set up for a palmcall:

    Code:
    PalmCall.call("palm://org.webosinternals.tweaks.prefs",

    doh....

It would help is I spelled "result.returnValue" correctly in my foundation call.

And yes I can confirm it works. as posted above.

    Hi sconix,

On the custom text field option, is it possible to include it on a drop down listn Currently I wanted to make a teaks patch to mod some things in the top bar, including the carrier string. I'd like to provide some default options and then a custom option. So like, you could pick any of the default and if you chose Custom, a text field would then appear to let you enter in a text field. Right now I'm trying to figure a way to have the default options and not have it conflict with the custom option.

I can see it being useful to have an option for custom value in addition to the selections in a list. I add it into list of things to add, but don't know when I have the time. So for now you need to provide both, list and custom option and if custom is set then use that i.e. let it override the list selection.

I seem to get this error in the logs in launching tweaks on the emulator, Pre2 v516

    Just fyi,
    Code:
    2011-06-19T18:06:56.870664Z [22440] qemux86 user.err jailer[4059]: undefined device type!

    2011-06-19T18:06:56.871383Z [22440] qemux86 user.err jailer[4059]: undefined device type!
edit: get the same error type any time the tweaks service gets hit with the PalmCall request -- same request code as I posted before. Everything works, just thought you'd want to know about it.

It's an issue with the emulator, not Tweaks - it does that for any jailed process on the emulator.

Will there be a problem if Tweaks is getting a lot of requests? I've noticed that it has to do a lot of linux commands to reply to the service request. Since I'm patching the google calendar sync service, it tends to generate a lot of requests to Tweaks -- every time there's a change to the calendar or if there's a remote change on the google calendar. It's only really bad if the email is set to "as items arrive." Every sync request initiates the service and with it a new call to Tweaks.

Before I post a tweaks enabled patch to Preware, I thought I would ask.

Tweaks only does a database lookup and returns the data, so from Tweaks side its very lightweight operation. Of course if you can reduce the calls to Tweaks through the code it is always better. But in grand scheme of things Tweaks is just one service and there are lots of other services as well so any call of course strains the system so hence it always try to make the code so that it only makes calls when needed. For example I usually get the tweaks data when app is started since there is no need to re-read later the data again only when app is started. Thats what Tweaks anyway tells the user to do, restart app when its tweaks are changed.

I've tried to make it call as few as possible times, it only calls once. The problem seems to be that the sync service does not stay active. It re-initiates with every sync. Everything works, in the logs on my Pre2 time from query to processing the return is about 3.5 secs. On the emulator it's about 600 ms.

After the request this hits the logs:
