    4.dr. the pre2 to WR 2.1.0
5.swap it back (no need to do dr. frankenpre2)

    Thanks for your advice,
    gfdos

I will get logs tonight, and report back....
    Update:
Trying to get the pre2 to dr back to WR 2.1.0 -- did the comms board swap from the sprint back to the GSM one since meta-frankenpre2 was erroring at 84% -- unable to update.
that worked.... I'm back to stock WR 2.1.0.

Following the instructions early in this thread, I realized I should have activated the sprint service on the coms board and make sure it is data provisioned first before moving the board to the WR pre2... further this is not possible in 2.1.0 because provisioning and prl updates do not appear to work.
Trying to flash from meta-doctored 2.1.0 back to stock 1.4.5, I got the "WARNING: flashing failed, move to failed card".... redownloaded, different USB cable... same error.... tried different usb port and it works.

So I have it back to stock sprint doctor 1.4.5. I contacted sprint and switched my service to this comm board, upon rebooting the device, the phone runs first use, which wants me to create or login to my palm profile, which of course doesn't work since the data is not provisioned, and there is no obvious way to bypass first use.... I have read about using meta-doctor to program and make a wifi profile... and I recall mentionings of "dr. skip first use"--- which i will no doubt have to look back into....Calling sprint about this they had me go into "emergency call" and delete 911 and replace it with ##(MyMSL)# (which is different for each phone) and change my MDR and MSID to my phone number... they seemed to expect this would force a reboot... which it did not, but then I was able to make a outgoing test call....
They of course were at the end of their training and wanted to ship me out a replacement hand set under warranty. I declined, knowing of course that this would not be possible since the palm tamper sticker on my T5 screw is destroyed....

I had them transfer my service back to my pixi, which now has no data service, and they could not determine why, and were about to send me a replacement pixi, when I remembered the "update network" and "update PRL" options in the phone app, under preferences menu.... update network restored my data service on the pixi....

My guess is that if I swap service back to the pre, somehow bypass first use, go into the phone menu and using ##MSL# set my MDR and MSID and can make a test call, I will be able to "update network" to get data working.
Then I can flash with meta-sprint-pre-2.1.0 to update modem firmware, and re-transplant the sprint comms board into my freshly WR-2.1.0 pre2 and be able to walk through first use without a problem, using my already created 2.1.0 profile I created by running first use with --wifi only build of meta-sprint-pre-2.1.0.

QUESTION: (and this may be answered already, so I will look for the answer) Is there a way to bypass first use other than a meta-doctor, and if not, how (other than --wifi only that i built with meta-sprint-pre-2.1.0).

EDIT: Realized I am over thinking the whole thing... the original purpose OF meta-doctor is to bypass first use....duh. Since I've been using it so much with scripts to make 2.x doctors, totaly forgot its the same tool used with "make" syntax. Sorry to waste everyone's time on this.

Note that using Cygwin on Windows is no longer a supported MetaDoctor option. The official Wiki pages now require you to use WUBI on Windows and follow the Linux instructions after that. The option for using Cygwin on Windows will not be reinstated. We've wasted too much time on it already.

Hi I've attempted to upgrade my Sprint franken pre2 to webos 2.1 but keep getting the error "your device is not compatible with this webos doctor" I followed all the steps in the wiki webos internal and used the script: ./scripts/meta-sprint-franken-unlocked-pre2-2.1.0.

Has anyone run into this error as well?

BTW - my sprint network and data connection works fine on the pre2 with the current webos 2.01 but i can't get the text messaging to work. Was hoping that if I doctored to 2.1 that i could get the texting to work....

    Your device is a sprint-franken-verizon-pre2, not a sprint-franken-unlocked-pre2

The one with your device configuration in the name. It's a test script, let me know if it works.

Tad! It works! Thank you Rod. Everything is up and running. I'm so excited! Just upgraded the Angry Bird Season for Easter...guess what eggs I'll be looking for all day Sunday.

    Thanks again!

So i created the sprint-meta-franken-pre2 doctor using the correlated script. Updated the device using system updates post Dr. And now whenever i tap the phone icon, it doesn't actually launch the phone app. I've had this happen before, but im not sure what the issue is, or if other users are having the same issue.

    Anyone?
  9. #249
Im assuming it has something to do with the tokens i copied over prior to the scripts being written. Is there a way to set all the tokens back to default? Because i do not have the stock pre2 tokens saved :/

UPDATE: Tried a few different doctors, and now the doctor gets stuck at 12% no matter which doctor i use (stock WR 2.1.0, Modified 2.1.0 WR, Sprint-frankedpre-unlocked script) Uh. Oh.

UPDATE 2: After getting the 2.0.0 doctor to finish running through, i never get past the static Palm logo on boot. Just sits there and does nothing...

I'm going through the steps for converting a Verizon Pre 2 to Sprint, and am basically successful in the install and doctor. Verizon 2.0.1 straight to meta Sprint 2.1.

Everything works, but I'm getting 1-2 Luna restarts/resets (reboot to HP logo) daily, whether in use or in pocket.

It was suggested to run the "stock WR doctor" but when I do, I'm seeing the "Your device is not compatible with this version of webOS Doctor" message, which I assume is that meta doctor still kept the Verizon tokens.

Is there another suggestion for alleviating the restarts? Will using the deprecated meta franken 2.0.1 doctor be "better"? Anyone seen anything that works?

    Thanks

I'm trying to doctor a verizon to unlocked gsm franken pre2. Does anyone see what i'm doing wrong here? The phone just reboots over and over again (shown in video below)

    Build and Doctor Log
    Code:
    ./scripts/meta-verizon-franken-unlocked-pre2-2.1.0

    DEVICE = pre2

    ENABLE_DEVELOPER_MODE = 1

    CUSTOM_WEBOS_TARBALL = webOS.tar

When the doctor says "waiting for device to come back", unplug and replug the device.

You also forgot to change your Ubuntu /bin/sh from dash to bash.

Just tried unplugging and plugging it back when it says this, but it resulted in the same reboot loop.

The phone appears to be stuck in this loop whether i'm doctoring or not. It also does this same loop if I try membooting it with novacomd.

I changed to bash and am building a new meta-doctor now.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks for the help

It's most likely a problem with the novacom drivers on your host computer, not the device or doctor.

I assume you're starting the device in recovery mode, right?

I just tried the universal novacom installer, then re-downloading and installing the drivers from palms website, but both of these resulted in the same problem.

Yes, I'm starting the device in recovery mode.

I'm not sure if this helps, but this is what the phone is doing over and over again:

I've also tried moving the meta-doctor (built on ubuntu machine) to a separate windows computer and running it from there, but the same problem occurs.

Another note: I've successfully doctored a pre plus to 2.1 as well as doctoring the current frankenpre2 to 2.1 in the past using these computers.

You said the same thing happens on a memboot?

Hmm. The only thing which can stop a memboot is usually a hardware problem.

Ah damn I was afraid that had to be it after all the diffeent things I've been trying. Is there anything I should do to confirm that?

So all of the taking apart stuff and code stuff I got...My first initial question is does the Pre- need to be activated before starting this process? Next question will the phone be able to be activated with the stock rom version that is on the PRE2 or do I have to upgrade to V2 before activating the new Sprint Pre 2?

    Thank You all!
