The activation scene is designed for devices that have not previously had a palm profile associated with them.

Ah ok, so in theory if I was to change the access to UK and sign in with my current PProfile, then nothing would happen?

The country of your profile is set at profile creation, and I have never seen it change. The app catalog access is determined by the device record, and that can't be changed either.

So I doubt anything will happen, but you never know with the app catalog ...

LOL! Man, that signature of yours with the moving pointer had me going for a while there!

Ok, i was only asking because I thought I'd risk it and see what happens, but it gives this message as I'm sure you know

And I don't really feel like having my device wiped then having to reconfigure it all over again, taken a while to get it to where it is in terms of customisation But signing in with my existing profile might not have any effect other than changing the Catalogue to UK, but I actually have no idea so I was wondering about the percentage of risk of having my device wiped!

Default Impostah Can help?

Rod,

I have recently changed my ATT pre plus comm board with O2 Pre one to support my country's 3g band. After that I went through a series of meta-doctors but all resulted in 9.9.9 except the original one from ATT. Now my profile is stuck at 9.9.9 no matter what. I had changed the Token from the device (O2) also. No help. Can Impostah help me in any way? Also I now have the phone number from O2 board in my profile. Is is possible to override that from Impostah?

Impostah has no influence on profile versions for already activated devices.

I would not expect it to wipe your device. The effects I am talking about would be related to profile synergy data and backups - the impact of this on those things has not been fully characterised on real profiles.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but I'm not finding it anywhere.

I have a PrePlus on AT&T in the US. It hasn't been activated and won't be activated until May 11 (crazy merger thing). I've doctored the device to 2.1. It looks like on the Internals page that I won't be able to purchase 2.1 apps because my device profile will be listed as 1.4.5 instead of 2.1 because I'm on AT&T.

Can Impostah get me around that using the Pre2 instructions in the other thread since I haven't activated it yet? I'm totally new, so I don't have a Palm Profile setup yet either.

Nice app Rod,
Too bad it doesn't work with webos 1.4.5. I wish there's a way to get access to paid apps over here... Didn't know about the actvitation location and differences in the App Catalog when I bought my Pré Classic... :-(

Impostah is not able to change what device/carrier/version combinations are accepted as valid by the palm profile server.

Rod,

I've had this app since you released it and I finally got a change to take a look at it. It's to bad about the misguided posts about the activation portlet, as clearly there are issues at the server level that will always stand between the user and the teleco.

Using Impostah it's been easy to find out where a number of details are stored on my phone, be it an icon or a comprehensive list of the many accounts on the phone.

I think that as WebOS continues to develop to interact with many different types of devices Impostah will play an important role in preventing account cross-contamination and provide a handy information server for the user.

Thanks for putting this together,

Hans

I lost access to the app catalog since a month or so. I Keep getting "this action couldn't be completed, try again later"
I'm running 2.1 on a GSM pre plus (originally from SFR) and had access to the US catalog with no issues (first time metadoctored on 1.4.5 and used to have full catalog access even after upgrading to 2.1)

Lumberjack and impostah show this error: Service Error (access country): {"error codes": "DISC7000", "message": "uncaught json error: GetDeviceCountry: extractDeviceProfiles Failed: java.lang.String Response:{\"UserProfileDeviceInfoList\":\"\"}"}

Tried with a different profile, reset and doctored to no avail.
any ideas to what went wrong? this happened spontaneously and I remember there was talk at the time on the WOSI IRC channel of HP messing with the app catalog servers.

Looks like a problem on Palm's server. You should contact Palm support.

However, it wouldn't be the first time unofficial users receive a repaired Pre from Palm Repair, only to painfully find out their commboard was replaced, of course after logging into their profile, and thereby saving a new device record for the new commboard without AppCat entitlement.
Any chance of making that button active without logging into a profile?
No chance. The call which retrieves that information needs the authentication token from the profile. Without a profile, the call cannot be made.

After an hour and a half with chat support they basically told me that they need to transfer the case to a "specialist team" but they cant arrange a callback with a specialist cause I'm out of the US and that i should check with the operator I bought the handset from.
now I'm stuck with installing apps through dummy maker.
when I think of it, couldn't the dummy maker thing be implemented in preware? so that we could bypass the catalog app for good?
thx

Have you tried using Impostah to install them?

yeah it's working fine through impostah. no problem installing, i even get the notification banner of the app catalog ("some app has been successfully installed")
And by the way, not only the app catalog is not working but also the help app i get a page with erro message "failed to load the requested page" and on scrolling down the page details like Locale: en-us Carrier c000-01 carrier Name ROW device D100-03)

Can you set (on the command line):

PmLogCtl set LunaSysMgr debug
PmLogCtl set LunaSysMgrJS debug

Then capture the /var/log/messages and ls-monitor output that surrounds that error.
