Thanks Rod! I was concerned just changing the device profile was insufficient, especially as I had to create a new palm profile for the qa opal device although I used the same email address as my standard profile.

location host changed from qa server to ps.palmws.com

however, identity string does not 'stick' and app catalog does not work now.

Both those things just set device profile overrides (which are the things which stick). I assume you have the prerequisites installed for that to operate correctly.

I have the device profile service override from preware installed as required.
I then opened impostah
went to device profile tab
changed device impersonation from HSTNH-I29C to Touchpad WiFi
changed server to ps.palmws.com from the qa sedver addy
entered a string for chameleon identity

reboot

try app catalog, 'action could not be completed' error

is there a way to override device UID returned by PDL_GetUniqueID for PDK apps ? I tested with impostah device profile override (having installed device profile service override), and it does not seem to modify it, only the one returned by the JS service I guess.

To complement my previous question I read this in HP dev doc :

This function opens and reads a file. Your app should call it once, then cache the ID. This function should not be called in a performance-critical loop.

I guess that if it opens and reads a file, there must be a file somewhere on the device containing that device id. Maybe this file can be patched.

I am not trying to do anything illegal.
My son hates his phone and would like to use my old Palm Pre. I no longer use it.
He does not have a data plan. I was wondering if I can use this to hide the phone from ATT.

I want to set it up for wifi only without data. I know ATT scans phones at times and will charge a data plan if you have a smart phone whether or not you use data.

I didn't know if I could use Impostah to change the phone so that it doesn't register as a smart phone.

There are patches in preware (e.g. Scocnix advanced menu patches) that will allow you to toggle phone radio off. This should solve your concern.

First at all please ignore my english. My name is Pablo, i live in Argentina and i bought a Palm pre3 unocked. The Palm worked fine until i did a hard reset. the device did not recognize the Sim (Can not start thelephone (6)). I remember before to do the hard reset that i had the impostah installed with a profile (I would like to have my own profile, so i did the hard reset) I believe that the Palm was Locked so i bought a unlock code but the problem persist. Please help i miss Palm pre

Doesnt solve the fact that the phone is intended to be used on the carriers network for voice and I presume messaging, but not data.

Likewise there are patches that toggle cellular data only but leave the phone part on. I use it all the time to make sure my prepaid Pre 3 uses wifi only. Can still call/SMS/MMS.

Perhaps a patch that always disables the data might help folks in this poster's situation? Or putting in dummy Internet APN settings might stop it? And regardless if AT&T isn't giving this phone data, won't it just not work?

Really don't see this question as an Impostah issue unless it does something I don't know?

Cellular data can also easily be turned off in phone settings. I'm pretty sure that setting is sticky and doesn't change if you turn airplane mode on and then back off. I usually have cellular data turned off on my phone that has a prepaid SIM on a daily plan in it so I can turn on the radio to sync the time and not worry about it using data and using any cellular data.
