This should not only save you from doctoring, but give you a relatively reliable communication device.

Gonna give this one more try. I mean why the hell not my phone is already broken and I am getting an insurance replacement later this week. What's the worst that can happen? Hopefully these won't be my famous last words.

EDIT: Just finished removing the F105 kernel and the phone is restarting. Going to reapply the stock palm kernel after boot just for good measure even though I am 99% sure that will have no effect. Will update again after reapplying the SR71 kernel

Keep in mind kernels will void your warranty.

Through some experimentation on a "weak" device that I use for testing the limits of what is acceptable for UberKernel inclusion, we have determined that some devices just don't like OPP1 and OPP2, and will hang if they enter those states.

Now, OPP1 and OPP2 are usually 125MHz and 250MHz respectively on stock and Uber and previous Psycho kernels.

However, with SR71 version -78, OPP1 is 250MHz and OPP2 is 500MHz. (Note that this has been changed back at version -80, so this post does not apply to version -80 or later).

This "weak" device I have (when running any previous kernel) will 100% repeatably hang at 125MHz or 250MHz but will be fine at 500MHz. Running SR71, it now 100% repeatably hangs at 250MHz and 500MHz, but is fine at 700MHz. Note that in all cases, it is failing at OPP1 and OPP2, but fine at OPP3.

So if you have a weak device, you'll need to select Screenstate 700/1205 and save and apply that profile before your screen turns off for the first time

Note that if you have such a device, and it gets too hot (over 55) then the new temperature limiter will set it to 500MHz and cause it to hang. So you'll need to let it cool down before rebooting.

Also, if you have such a device, it will be set to 500MHz on Touchstone and wall charger, and will hang. Boot it with the USB disconnected.

Also not that this "weak" device has ES3.1 revision OMAP3430 silicon just like any other Pre, so it is unrelated to silicon version. There is no discernible pattern to which devices are "weaklings" and which are Chuck Norris devices.

No, there is no way of determining which devices are "weak" and which are not. And it's got nothing to do with the OMAP version either, cause I checked and this device has an ES3.1 version of the silicon, same as all other Pre and PrePlus phones.

For example, my 12-09 device has never had a single issue with under/over clocking. I've been able to run every kernel I can remember at any given frequency. Anyways with all that said, I've been running the SR71 for about 12 hours now and so far my device is running great. No temp issues at all, device is sitting at about 38 degrees right now. The only time my device will hit 45+ is on the touchstone and it will do that even when I'm running the stock kernel. I'm going to test out battery life some today and will be back with my opinions/results.

Rod has said there is no reliable way to determine the weak Pre's.

Yeah but this is an insurance replacement not a warranty replacement. Besides it only voids the warranty if you tell them what you did to the phone. The moment I get on the line with warranty and/or insurance replacement I go from being alpha testing power user to dumb what are wi-fi's end user consumer.

Check if it has "palm" logo in the back. If so then check if it has a sliding keyboard (will probably slide side to side aswell). If it does it is more than likely a weak Pre As far as the non physical kind of weak I think installing this kernel is the way to test this.

Okay as an update now restarting the phone with the SR71 kernel at 1:30 PM est lets see if I can get this beast running (doubtful but I'm bored at work so why not)

Update phone restarted no issue unlike the first time I attempted to install but again my apps weren't there restarting again and all my apps are still missing

Update 2 phone apps came back and phone runs great on the default settings untill i try and open an app at which point the phone restarts to the palm logo. Going to try tweeking some of the settings to see if i can get the phone to run semi stable for any amout of time with this kernel

Can we get a youtube video up of some hot 1.2Ghz action?
  8. #148
note I am able to get into Govnah and Preware, whenever I open the save/restore app is when the phone clonks out. I am again at the point where trying to start the phone on the TS is no go, gonna pull battery and try starting again from wall charger

+1 since I can't fully use it on my phone. A side by side against stock, 800mhz and 1ghz would also be cool so we can see the difference in the speeds

Can someone who is successfully running SR71 at 1.2 Ghz perform a sunspider test? I would like to see how much of a performance increase there is going from 1 Ghz to 1.2 Ghz.

I've tested the throttle back to 500mhz when the temp gets to 55 degrees. It works well. Once my Pre hit 56 degrees, the speed went down to 500mhz. But then went back to 1205 once it went below 55 degrees.

I think to prevent this constant toggling, maybe it would be better if it didn't go back up to 1205 until the temp decreased to 50 degrees? Is that possible, unixpsycho/rod?

Doing Sunspider now for 1.2, and we'll be doing a video soon.

I ran the sunspider test comparing blackbird scaled at 1005mhz and 1200mhz

    1005mhz
    Total: 11058.6ms

    1200mhz
    Total: 9559.0ms

I was running fine with the 81 update but the moment I went to restart the phone locked up, now it's looking like it won't boot any of the way's i've been trying to get it to boot. Looks like i need to have a trip to the doctor as soon as I get off work

Update: figures as soon as I say that the phone starts to boot. I'm going to tweek the settings a bit and see if there is any way to get this running stable on a wimpy pre

I would love for you to add this feature in! ( I've been using this kernel since last night with no problems. +1 Norris Pres!)

I agree that this would be a smart add. on a side note I can kinda run with the 81 update but phone will crash after a few min

Update: was able to get starfield running at an amazing FPS but crashed when I tried to close the app
