I did the OTA through Preware for Govnah and UK before reading that I should doctor me Pre just to be safe. He update went through and it works fine. It does seem to get laggy after consistent use but that happened before and I would do luna re starts or use Jstop. I guess I will try doctoring it soon to see if that helps.

Ok, great. I guess I'll post a new topic then since I can't seem to find the warthog thread. I can't quite figure out how there can be any coherent discussion about the various kernel branches. I must be a complete ***** for not being able to find the threads. Anyway, thanks for scolding me for "confusing" the new kids while not offering any pointers to solutions.

No scolding here. Most of the actual technical discussion about the kernel branches happens on the IRC channel.

If you're interested in contributing to the development of (as opposed to just using) the kernels, then please visit there. In particular, Warthog (being a developer testbed, not an end-user kernel) is exclusively discussed there.

The other kernels that are intended for end-users each have a thread (although some of them are not in this sub-forum).

Ok, so here's a question... I've never used IRC... How do I use IRC? I was asking the same question in the WebOS forum (haven't yet checked for a response today)? I've been going back and forth between Warthog & UK and think I have some useful input.

Got my first too many cards yesturday. Using uber kernel with compcache on set to 32MB. I had 5 browser windows open four of them to blog posts on precentral full site and the 5th one open to mobile twitter to add follows from article links. Plus I had twee open catching up on tweets. It ran smooth as if only one app was running. I'm glad the fix was discovered for too many cards. Closing one of the browsers to open govnah memory is reported at 234/108 probably slightly less that it was when TMC occured. I can consistently replace that 5th browser window with another one or a different app. Probably not a 3D game. Not going to try it this time. Will do a stress test another time.
As requested: for my works on webOS patches and apps. Twitter: @larryboytw Patches: Small icons browser start page, 5x5 launcher. I have an AAS CIS Programming degree. I enjoy working on open source projects and alpha and beta testing.
http://install.preware.org/ for easy to get up and running for patches and apps.

I am using a German Palm Pre
Before I made UPdate I deinstalled UberKernel and Govnah.
After Update I wanted to install UberKernel from Preware ()but I only get message that only "placeholder" is available.....when will come new version ?
It´s hard to work with the Original Kernel

The real one will be available within 24 hours of Palm releasing the 1.4.5 kernel source code on opensource.palm.com ...

A temporary 1.4.1 kernel repackaged to instal on 1.4.5 is in the testing feed. I'm waiting for reports from alpha testers.

OK. I found UK, installed the Pixi version on my AT&T PixiPlus.

However, in Govnah compcache fails to apply as enabled=true with the following error message:

Unable to run command: /bin/insmod/lib/modules/2.6.24-palm-chuck/extra/xvmalloc.ko 2>&1
insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.24-palm-chuck/extra/xvalloc.ko':-1 File exists

Am I doing something wrong? I do notice I don't get the TMC error even with 11 cards open so apparently UK is working.

I just got wIRC, but haven't been able to find the #webos-internals channel yet. [Please don't make fun of me.]
I did find it using mIRC (on my PC)- but it's just a trial and I have no intention of paying for the client. I have 28 days left on the 30 day trial.
Every time I go into that channel, there is no one else there, so I think I'm probably doing something wrong.

I haven't seen a user with the nick "Trident" say anything in #webos-internals in the last 24 hours.

See Index of /livelogs/webos-internals for the logs of each day. You can see that it is active 24 hours a day, every day.

X-Chat 2 for Windows has a good Windows IRC client.

I hope this is the right place to ask questions about govnah. I have just installed preware and govnah on my unlocked at&t pre plus. But i can't choose any new profiles, and govnah does not display SoC temperature. I'm totally new to webOS, just recieved my pre plus today. The devise is running 1.4.2 firmware. I have restarted the device 3 times now, connected and disconnected to my computer. What have i overlooked?

    Thank you

This is the Uber-Kernel thread; there's another one for all Govnah related... but:

    Preware lets you install programs.

Govnah lets you choose among the system available speeds & governors.

Last, Uber-Kernel replaces the default Palm kernel (the core of the OS), adding 720 & 800MHz, adding some governors (standard linux ones, plus screenstate) & makes cpu temp available to monitoring apps. Rebooting after install is needed for the new speeds & governors to be available.

You've probably missed installing Uber-Kernel. Both Govnah and Uber-kernel can be installed through Preware.

    Enjoy

I found a nice client called IceChat. And I think that I was in the #webos-internals channel for about a minute, but it was just in a java-based FF browser. Don't even know how I got that one.

Thank you quini. You are right, i have not installed Uberkernel. I have googled it and it seems like überkernel doesn't work with 1.4.2(the version i have). How do i downgrade to a supported firmware?

The team is going to release a 1.4.2 based Uberkernel as soon as the sources get released... in the meantime, you can still use screenstate 500/600. That means +20% CPU power when the screen is on

UberKernel works fine on 1.4.2 - just install it from Preware.
