Talking Game: Fish Fillets NG!

I'm happy to announce the first public BETA of:

Game Fish Fillets NG for Palm Pre

Brought to you by debilater.

Description (by the original developers): Fish Fillets NG is strictly a puzzle game. The goal in every of the seventy levels is always the same: find a safe way out. The fish utter witty remarks about their surroundings, the various inhabitants of their underwater realm quarrel among themselves or comment on the efforts of your fish. The whole game is accompanied by quiet, comforting music.

Screenshots (unfortunately only of minimized game because taking screenshots of the running app didn't work):

I installed the game restarted my pre but it won't load. I click the icon and get a message saying it is starting but nothing ever happens. I also notice you have a german support page I know sometomes there is a problem with people in Germany installing apps so I wonder if this is related.

And did you use the latest version of webos quick install? I tried it again, it tool a while to install, in the end it asked me if I want the postinst script to be executed (this is required) and after this it works.

Hm, that's odd. Do you have linux access to your palm? If yes, could you run "tail -f /var/log/messages" while starting the game? On my phone I get the following when I start it:

Oh - btw, do you have the upstart manager installed? It's called Upstart Manager Service and can be installed via Preware - this service is required to run the game.

I have the upstart service running. I ran tail -f /var/log/messages but it does not show any reference to game fish filets. When I click on the icon it highlights briefly shows fish filets is starting at the bottom with a pop but then it goes away but never starts.

Hm, too bad. You'd better wait for the Preware package, sorry for now - I'm out of ideas.

Well in theory of course. But the commandline installer doesn't execute the postinstall script, which is required (and which seems to be the problem of mamouton). So, no I can' recommend it. Try it with webos quick install and add the upstart manager via preware or wait for the official package to appear on preware (which should happen in the next few days).

I love Fish Fillets on Linux. I was thrilled when I saw this in Preware for installation. Now I'm frustrated because I'm getting an md5sum mismatch between the package and the feed index.

Me too! This was one of my favorite puzzle games when it came out for Windows in the late 90s, and it's great to have it fully realized in a portable format.

I installed it originally as an IPK file via WebOSQuickInstall, and it's worked fine for me, except Preware is perpetually showing an available update. When I run the update, it leaves me with version 0.9.2-2, which was the original version I installed. Not a big deal, as the game's been working great so far.

Thanks for the keyboard reference; that's the one thing I needed. Perhaps this could replace the current "Help" screen, which is kind of useless since it refers to function keys not present on the Pre. For now I just dumped that into my \media\internal folder as a jpg file so it's always handy.
