Default Stella Atari 2600 VCS Emulator

I'm happy to announce the first public BETA of

Stella Atari 2600 VCS Emulator

Brought to you by debilater.

First Thanks goes to my beloved wife Leo, without her patience and support I couldn't ever make this happen! Thanks goes to the Stella development team for this awesome emulator! And Thanks to the webos-internals team for their hard work on WIDK!

The Stella emulator plays all ROM files for Atari 2600, in fact I haven't found one which doesn't work yet.

Before you start testing/playing please read the official Wiki page about Stella:

Application:Stella - Webos-Internals

Do not post links to ROM files in this thread!

There is a german support forum here.

Current Bugs/Problems:
- Stella crashes if you switch from portrait mode (the default) to landscape mode. Open bug reported to stella maintainer (debilater)

- taking screenshots with the palm (orange+@+p) produces empty images

- if you put stella into the background, the command menu appears

- switching to landscape view from stella freezes the app (it works from commandline though)

Update 10.Feb2010 22:25: It's available via Preware now!

Well, the funny thing is that stella discovers the accelerometer as joystick But I was unable to figure out how to play games by shaking the phone

This is freakin sweet!! I was getting ready to install MHS into my phone, and when I added in a new custom feed, I saw this app appear. So I searched the forums and found this!

Way to go debilater (and of course props to the wife for supporting you)!!!!! I'm going to be installing this and throwing some ROMs onto my Pre. All we need now is a SNES and Genesis emulator and I'll be in hog heaven!!!

Where? I have looked through every app listed and I check for updates a bunch of times a day. I have my Preware settings set to check all of the different feeds.

Yes I found it really difficult to find too.

On the first page of Preware, select 'List of Everything'. Then type 'stella' to search, and it should be the first/only item shown.

I found it! I had tried downloading this emulator before, but it didn't install. But that still caused it to be listed as being installed in Preware. Once I updated to the latest version of Preware; I was able to delete the emu and reinstall it. I'm just glad there is an ever growing list of emulators for the WebOS!

Oh, and are you also planning on adding a Touch-Screen toggle?

What do you mean? An "on-screen controller" thing like in VBA?

I'm going to assume the pre supports this fine but the pixi doesn't. Is that correct?

Well, I don't know if the pixi actually supports SDL, but if it does all you might have to do is to modify the Stella config.

Edit the file /media/internal/stella/config/stellarc and set the following parameters as such:

Code:
fullres = 320x400
launcherres = 320x400
It should work, but since I don't have access to a pixi and no one reported if it works yet, it might be possible that it doesn't work. If it works for you, could you tell me please? Thanks!

I would love to test it out on a pixi and will provide you with some feedback. But I don't think it will feed to a pixi through preware, is there somewhere I can download this from my PC and install through other means?

I read the wiki on it but didn't see anything to download it there.

The actual package is here. You'll need to install the "Upstart Manager Service" (via Preware or WOQI) too.
