No this is not needed. The only thing that can happen is that it do not work anymore.
We are working on a 1.4.5 version that will be available via Preware. But we can not give a time frame for it.
At the moment I expect it to have the same app id, so Preware should tell you about the update when it is there.
But I will announce it here too.

Would be lovely to have it via preware. Same for the language files. Guess the maps will be up to the user to be placed in the right directory.

Not necessarily. Navit creates files on /media/internal/ and another application could copy cloud made maps over to the appropriate directory.

The current plan is that you need to install the maps manually.
I think an application to download maps to the pre in the right folder should be not problem for an WebOS developer. I would expect that it could be done without the PDK.
The Planet extractor has an web API to download maps. The App would only need to present a list of predefined countries, make the right call to the api to get the current map file and store it at the right place.

* Europe: (~1.3GiB) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...72.09228515625
* Germany: (~490MiB) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...5,55.634765625
* France: (~312MiB) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...002,51.6796875
* BeNeLux: (~270MiB) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...54.51416015625
* Spain/Portugal: (~41MiB) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...44.40673828125
* Italy: (~80 Mb) http://maps.navit-project.org/api/ma...5,47.197265625

If you look at the links you will see that the four parameter are only a the coordinates for the box of the Navit map.

So we would welcome everybody how chimes in for that map downloader application. You can find noradtux and me in the webosinternals irc chat.

We started a new thread for the Navit version that is in Preware right now as this thread contains a lot of information that is not valid anymore.

The new thread is at http://forums.precentral.net/webos-i...on-system.html and the developers have requested that this thread be closed.
