    Having gone on a few more journeys with larger roundabouts I agree the problem seems to be with the roundabout symbol on the bottom of the skin being the wrong way round for the UK rather than the map directions but Navit still seems to have problems calculating which number exit of the roundabout it wants you to take, particularly if the roundabout connects with one or more dual carriageway roads. It seems to get the number of the exit to take wrong more often than right.

    The problem with the speaker icon still exists in landscape mode - it shows the no-sound symbol in landscape when the sound is on and the sound-on symbol when sound is turned off.

    The default display seems to be "Car" during the day and "Car-dark" after 6pm. I have to say I would much prefer the display to show "Car" all the time - the "Car-dark" display is impossible to see if it is at all light.

    Looking forward to being able to try it with Garmin maps...

    Just install the program on your computer and copy the files from the DEM.map folder (minus the unnecessary half dozen *d60* files) plus (for the UK) the contents of the subfolder smp5.smp into the /media/internal/MapsNavit folder on your pre. Then you need to edit the navit.xml file on your pre in the .app-storage/file_.media.cryptofs.apps.usr.palm.applications.org.webosinternals.navit_0 folder as follows:

    <mapset enabled="yes">
    <map type="mg" enabled="yes" data="/media/internal/MapsNavit/DEM.map" />
    <map type="mg" enabled="yes" data="/media/internal/MapsNavit/DEM.map/smp5.smp" />
    </mapset>

    Does any one know why this page is not displaying the maps? Or who I send an email to? The page loads, but no map to select from.

    I'm not sure as I'm on my Pre right now, but it might be that you need to have JavaScript activated in your browser. Though me and obviously others following this thread had their problems with the downloader doing its part but generating incomplete maps or strange vectors that fly around wher they don't belong.

    There are pre-processed maps for download on http://downloads.cloudmade.com/ . I had some trouble with those also, but you could try your luck.

    cheers

    PreGP, you could try and download one of the POI files from CloudMade Downloads and add them as additional map source. This might get you the better Marco Polo maps and the better OSM POIs, no guarantees. As described in above post and earlier, I had strange vectors in Hannover, Germany with the cloudmade maps. Not sure how that comes.

    I'm using a mapset off the Navit LiveCD from mandrivauser.de and it works flawlessly, thoug it is not what you'd call complete or up-to-date as newer populated areas aren't in yet.

    cheers

    I'm looking forward to here from you if it is working as soon as the package is out.

    Thanks for the headsup. I certainly look forward to Garmin map support and will test it out when this is available.

    In Australia, I am now getting a good result with navit and the cloudmade map. The speech is faster and the accent seems German-like. The gui does not seem to be the same as this forum as the time to go etc is still at the bottom of the screen not at the top left hand side. Looking forward to the next version to test out.

    I used the CloudMade maps as well, and they have strange streaks across them, as described. They didn't work any better than the ones I created manually.

    two great things with this:
    1. It can run with the phone in airplane mode!!!
    2. I tried to start Sprint Navigation this morning and it would not get a fix. I started navit and it got a fix right a way, then went back to Sprint Nav, and it got a fix right away. Great stuff guys!!!

    Thanks for the offer. The space is not the problem. The complete server, where my virtual server is running, crashed. There was some time needed to contact the provider as yesterday was public holiday in Germany. It is back up again.

    Yeah, Domino rocks !!!
    And yes it is a Domino Server 8.5.1 running on ubuntu. I'm a Notes/Domino specialist since 1996. This server is my playground to test new things and keep may small admin skills, as I'm manly developer/architect, up to date

    Yes you can:
    1) Go to .app-storage/file_.media.cryptofs.apps.usr.palm.applications.org.webosinternals.navit_0 on you pre in usb mode.
    2) Open the navit.xml
    3) Change <xi:include href="$NAVIT_USER_DATADIR/navit_gui_pre.xml"/> to <xi:include href="$NAVIT_USER_DATADIR/navit_gui.xml"/>. It should be at the end of the file, for me it is line 69.

    I would like to compile another locale - he_IL.UTF-8 (hebrew)
    I read somewhere that i need to run the following commands on a linux machine:
    Code:
    localedef -i he_IL -f UTF-8 he_IL.UTF-8
    localedef -i en_US -f UTF-8 en_US.UTF-8
    that generates LC files (LC_CTYPE, LC_COLLATE, LC_NAME) and other.

    can someone please generate those files for me or alternatively generate org.webosinternals.locale_he_IL_0.0.1_armv7.ipk ?

    Thanks!
