I did all that. Will this only work on 64-bit builds that support Java 6? I have 32 and I do all that but the window still just opens and closes right away. This is really frustrating!

I'm using a 32-bit bulid windows XP. It should work for both. Hmm, there is something you're missing... Something. Explain what you do step by step.

Hi Star_Destroyer,

If you're running a 64bit OS you need to have 64bit Java installed otherwise it wont find your device.

Im not a Mac person but the program logs to your temp directory. That may also give us some clues.

Thanks,
Greg

No devices have been found.

*** Things to try ***
*** Disable your firewall and try again.

*** Ensure your Pre is connected and running in DEV mode. (webos20090606)

*** Check Palm Pre is connected in 'Just Charge' mode.

*** Restart the Novacom Service. (Tools Menu>Restart Novacom Service...)

*** Disconnect your Palm Pre and restart your computer, connect your Palm Pre back to the computer and wait for it to say charging then try again.

If you continue to recieve errors post %temp%\Installer.log to forums.precentral.ne

^I get the same error. I tried all the stuff up there. Stop palm novacom appears as an option whenever I go to remove a flash drive by clicking on the green arrow icon in the taskbar for XP, so I'm sure novacom is installed.

Hi are you both using the windows.exe or the java file?

If you are using the Java file make sure that you have the correct version of java installed.

If you are running a 64 bit OS make sure you have 64bit Java installed.

Also if you are using the Java version give the windows.exe a go and see if that helps.

Make sure dev mode is turned on too.

If that still doesn't help please post delete the log file specified in the error and then try again. When it errors again post the log file here.

Thanks,
Greg

I was just wondering why the standalone preware installer has not been updated since version 1.5.0.

We have no developer looking after it any more.

Any .NET devs interested in taking it on?

Thanks for answering. I personally have always found this the most convenient way of installing Preware. In fact I still continue to use it even with my TouchPad. I don't know much about programming, but would this not be a rather simple enough task, for those who know what they are doing, to update the installer with the updated files?

You tell me. I know nothing about it. It was done by another developer who no longer uses webOS.

Default Preware will not install on TouchPad

I believe I have followed the hints and tips to install Preware on my TouchPad.
The .jar version appeared to install the drivers OK.
The .exe version lets me stop and start the Novacom service but fails on the install.

The TouchPad is at version 3.0.2
I put it in developer mode and connected the usb cable but did not put it in usb drive mode
I was not asked to reset or reboot after turning on developer mode ?

The laptop is running 64-bit Windows 7

The .exe version of the installer suggested I upload the install.log
It is attached.

Any ideas ?

Those installers have not been touched since before both the TouchPad and Windows 7 were released.

If they don't work for you as-is, I would suggest using one of the other methods.

The developer has long since stopped using webOS.

Thanks Rod, I've tried WebOSQuickInstall-4.2.3.jar and it failed too.
I don't think the logfile got attached to my previous post, the error was:

It has been my personal experience that the standalone installer works for the Pre3 but does not work for the TPad.

If you have issues with webosqi, you should post those in the canuck coding forum section nder the webosqi thread.

It is likely that some webosqi users have had similar experiences and have potential solutions there.

Default Gave up and used WebOS-QuickInstall

I gave up with the standalone installer and used WebOS-QuickInstall 4.2.3.jar

I couldn't get that to run on 64-bit Win 7, though, I think the Novacom drivers it installs are 32-bit ones.

Succeeded from a 32-bit WIn 7.

Now have preware, impostah, and kindle reader (the main point of the exercise, as you have to use impostah to pretend you are in the USA)
