    Open Preware - everything is 'grey out' except for "Installed Packages" and "List of everything" which are all the packages I've installed.

    Hello, I'm having a problem launching preware lately. It keeps getting stuck at Checking Version or Updating. Before today, rebooting my phone would make it work, but I just tried that after it got stuck at Updating & after rebooting it's stuck on Checking Version now. It is Preware 0.9.2.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Quick Install changed its underlying patch system from 2.6 to 2.7 to using autopatch. The reason for autopatch is to move away from the mixing and matching and all the incompatibilities that it creates. I'm not sure the correct way to remove that patch (QI should not have been used for tweaks in webos 1.2 and above with any version prior to 2.7).

    You might try this to see if that patch can remove cleanly:

    Code:
    cd /
    /var/usr/bin/patch -p1 --dry-run < /var/usr/lib/quickinstall/<patch>

    I'm not sure that's what we want to do because it is only a "right now" answer. Anyone could create an app in the future for example and title it "Browser mini" and it would group in with the patches.

    With preware if you want to see the patches grouped together, you don't go to all rather you go to "available patches". And once everything is cleaned up the categories should have things nicely organized.

    A title convention like this also dramatically reduces the number of characters that can be used for a more descriptive title.

    I have been searching Preware for "Emergency Patch Recovery" and can not find it either. Can someone list the step-by-step directions to locate it?

    Available Patches> Recovery

    I've filecoasted forever. I just downloaded Preware, though, based on this Gizmodo "how-to" article I ran across: http://gizmodo.com/5373972/how-to-in...n-palm-pre-121

    Two questions:

    1) How the heck do I get to the Tools --> Tweaks menu???

    2) Under the "available patches" menu, all I have is the keyboard. Is that right?

    Thanks. There's another thread below that asks about uninstalling tweaks. Anybody recommend against installing tweaks because of problems removing them? Just thinking ahead to the next Palm patch release... Thanks in advance!!

    Do I have to install the on screen keyboard patch, before it'll let me see the tweaks menu panel?
  11. #1891
    I think you are combining WebOs Quick Install features with Preware. Currently, the only tweak available on Preware is the keyboard. However, WebOs Quick Install has a great many more.

    Let me know if you have further questions.
  12. #1892
    I like using webOSQuickInstall, direct from my computer. That's where Tweaks are more easily accessible.
  13. #1893
    Petey, THAT's the comment I needed. You got me straight, thanks!!!

    How do I know if a tweak is compatible with 1.2.1?
  14. #1894
    They should all be at this point as long as you are using the latest version of WebOs Quick Install.

    The list has been expanded significantly since last release.
  15. #1895
    Patches and tweaks are now available in PreWare...not just Quick Install.
    However you have to install the feed to see the patch ipk files.

    That's cool. I didn't notice that as I try to avoid the computer over the weekends.

    Eric,

    Again, you are doing such great work. All of the Patch Developers are doing amazing things.

    All of the titles above should now fit in the title bar now (many are much shorter). And if it is about the Phone, Messaging, Email, etc. you need to say that in the title somewhere, right? So why not start with the subject first?

    Either way, could we pick either Message or Messaging for Messaging patches?

    Also check this out:
    * Battery Icon and Percent
    * Battery Icon as Percent
    * Show Actual Batter Percent

    We know that does not mean that the first two patches don't show the percentage. We also know that the first two do show the actual percentage just like the third one. But if you are a new user, wouldn't you only pick the one that really shows the actual percentage and avoid the other two?

    For the sake of consistency, since these are all so similar could they have similar names?

    Whatever naming convention you choose for patches, it would be great if the differences in titles reflected the differences between patches.
