Thanks, I've been able to reproduce it now. It should be fixed in 0.9.30 (which is now in the alpha testing feed). Let me know if you alpha test 0.9.30, so I can get enough success reports to release it.

(Ignore the Add New Feed stuff in 0.9.30, it's still a work in progress)

I discovered that my device's / had hit 100%. (This explains why Preware was suddenly saying the package manager service wasn't running. The event.d file for the service hadn't been successfully written - it was 0 size. I'd tried doing an uninstall/reinstall when Preware first stopped working.)

In looking at the webos-patches.log, I see that Preware failed during a patch install because the device filled, but it thinks the patch install was successful. Of course, now I can't use Preware to uninstall, and WebOS Quick Install won't uninstall either. First, here's the install log:

    So - two things:
    1) I'd like to know how to reverse this patch manually. (I'm guessing with quilt - still poking around to find out how)
    2) it looks like Preware needs to start watching for this error - maybe checking for a minimum amount of free space before starting an install?

    1) I'd like to know how to reverse this patch manually. (I'm guessing with quilt - still poking around to find out how)
    2) it looks like Preware needs to start watching for this error - maybe checking for a minimum amount of free space before starting an install?
I'd recommend figuring out why / is at 100% and/or doctoring.

To fix this patch manually, first remove any other patches that touch those first 3 files (anything in phone category):

    patching file usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.phone/app/controllers/announcer-assistant.jsjsjs
    patching file usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.phone/app/controllers/incomingcall-assistant.jsjsjs
    patching file usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.phone/app/controllers/missedcall-assistant.jsjsjs

Then cp the three <file>.webosinternals.orig file back to the <file> (which should be stock files). After that Preware should have no problem removing the patch (as it will see it already unapplied and remove the package).

heavenly, there is no one universal solution to repair whatever symptoms you are seeing regarding a specific patch. The only universal solution is EPR to remove all patches and/or Doctor+partial erase (apps). For a specific solution to a specific problem either post in the patches subforum or come to irc channel.

katzme, known issue with one of the no-arrow patches commenting out code that named pages patch relies upon. Please visit the webos-patches subforum. Either the AUPT thread for systematic patch questions/problems or the respective patch thread.

Multi-package installs is something that is in the pipeline. Something like saving a configuration file to restore all packages is something we could explore as well and I believe has been briefly mentioned in the past. I have also been pondering the idea of user created Bundles for common multi-packages (mainly for patches but it would probably expand to all packages)
Sorry. Didn't realize there was a specific forum for patches. I'll move my question there. In the meantime, thanks for the suggestions.

I have not yet determined if it is connected to Preware. I will do an "Erase Apps & Data" reset but first I have to figure out if this will run and require me to log in to my Palm Profile as the first use app?

I will have a problem with this because I am on a GSM network where I have to modify the carriernetworksettings.db3 file before being able to connect to the Internet.

Can any one confirm if this is the case when doing a partial erase?

    What are my options? MetaDoctor?

I have also read about an app called "First Use" or something, or maybee this was an option in an app - I can not find it again - will this bypass the Palm Profile Login requirement in any way?

    Thanks
If you have to edit some file before you can get the Internet to work, than you very well may have to use Meta-Doctor. But if you edited the file before you hooked up service before, you might already have an unlocked phone?? Info on what phone you have, where you got it, & what carrier it was designed for could help determine something...

I'd imagine that the new "Erase Apps & Data" function would solve your problem, tho... but I'm not sure. If it doesn't, then I'd definitely try the Meta-Doctor to see if it solves your carrier issue with the carriernetworksettings.db3 file. Still might have to edit that too, tho. Dunno...

    G'Luck!

    +2

I need to figure out how to add a feature to the Roadmap...
    Roadmap – Preware

I just want a landscape view of scripts and logs while viewing in Preware. Then I'd say it deserves 1.0 status.

I had the same thought at one point but it ended up being fairly obvious for me because I only have patches I notice and care about....so when I open phone and it does not open to call list I know it's a placeholder without looking... I like the placeholder already because when it is 'back' ergo updated for this version it tells me when...

After updating to WebOs 1.4, I tried to install OpenSSH app - which will disable password security for wifi.. But one error keeps coming up after trying to install the app, it says that there is error with IKPG? Anyone know the solution to this problem?

Sure, I can alpha test Preware. Let me know where to get it from.

EDIT: nvm, I think I found it. http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/webos-...s/testing/all/
Will install it when I get home after work.

What have you installed into / which could fill it up? We usually just have patched text files and symlinks, and that won't fill up /, so you must have something very non-standard about your device - what is it?

I would love a feature in Preware that would allow Sending a list of Installed Patches, Apps or PatchesAndApps to either SMS, e-mail or the Clipboard. Some of my friends keep asking me which patches I have installed cause they are scared to just try them. If I could send them a list of the 53 I have installed from right inside of Preware that would be awesome.
I actually have an app sorta done that does most of this but would rather not make a separate app for this. Luna Page Space is too valuable for an app that just does this.

I have a problem installing the service, and I think my / is full too, though I know exactly why, in my ignorance, a few weeks ago, I sent a large file there, thinking I was sending it just to the root of the usb part of the device. (Don't think that's worded right but you probably know what I mean.)

Anywho, I thought nothing of it and soon forgot about the whole thing til I read this after I couldn't run preware.
How would I go about removing this file?

I should note that I did also webos doctor my pre to 1.4 so if that would've got rid of the file, then my problem is clearly something else...:-/

Anywho, sorry about the probably unnecessary amount of text, any help given is appreciated!
Also, I know, I'm an ***** for doing it in the first place...>_<
The stupidest part is that I didn't just use the USB mass storage option on the phone...I just had Quickinstall open and figured it'd save a few presses...

Sorry for the off topic post but I have to ask...

What is it with people saying "anywho" instead of "anyhow?" Don't they know how to spell or is it supposed to be something cute and clever?

I see it almost as much as people butchering the word "ridiculous" by spelling it "rediculous"....I'm just curious, that's all.

I think anyhow and anyway are interchangeable to a certain degree, where anywho is just a made up word.

I'm just curious how the whole "anywho" thing started because it makes no sense to me.

Anywho...don't mean to clutter up the Preware thread.

Is there a way I can view the / directory in Quick Install? In the command line maybe? So I can see if the file is still there?

EDIT: I've tried using the rm -f command with the file name, but it doesn't seem to exist there, so I'm not sure that this is actually my problem...I think I'm just going to re-Doctor and see if it helps. : /
Also...this may be a stupid question but, is it possible to format / and then doctor? Or would formatting that just cause many-a problem/not be possible anyway?

EDIT: SOLVED! The Doctor fixed my Pre right up, must've just been something crazy that happened with my last Doctor visit, or maybe I did something, anyway, Doctors save lives...and Pres!

is there anyway to install preware on my phone without using the webos quickinstall? i have a mac running webos 10.4.9 and for the life of me i cant get the java to work with it. then on my pc im running vista and i have tried everything to get it to install novacom. when i first installed my preware i was using my friends laptop running vista and we had no issues. the other day i updated my phone to 1.4 and the first time i mediasynced it, it wanted me to rename it as an ipod device (which i had already done in the past) and when i did this all my preware and preware downloaded apps deleted. when i reset my phone, it never turned on. Actually had to go to two sprint stores to get taken care and they ended just giving me a new pre... which is good cuz it feels good and fresh but i lost ALL my pics and music and i have to reinstall 1.4 on it. but i could give a damn about 1.4 compared to preware. im a major themer and patcher. i just am getting such a headache about install the webosquickinstall that i even put my mac laptop for sale on craigslist so i can go buy a new pc laptop that i understand. (i've only had the mac for like 6 months, and yes, macs are OK for lots of things, but for the stuff i do, I hate it!) anyways, im just looking for some alternatives in the meantime to seeing if i can get preware onto my phone. i hate having a stock phone....
