I receive an error when trying to install the virtual keyboard...How can I fix this issue?
  2. #4942
I've had Preware installed and working 100% on my Pre, via webOS Quick Install, since I first got it back in October (GSM)

However, a friend has just got a Pre and I want to install Preware on his Pre from my PC, to save him having to install Quick Install etc.

Can I just plug his Pre into my PC and copy over Preware & PMS, or do I have to do the full Developer Mode install onto his Pre ?
    Thought of the day :
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work anyway

For the Package Manager Service to work, you will need to do a full install for it to work.

Thanks, I thought that might be the answer.

So unless his Pre is still running 1.3.1 I'll have to wait for the webosdoctor.jar file to be available for 1.3.5.2

I found the non Palm web archive of webOS versions c/w 1.3.5.2.

Out of interest, his new Pre was bought last week from O2 in the UK and still had version 1.1.2 on it. They obviously are still using original stock from the UK launch day

So I sent him home to set up his WiFi and update to the latest version, get the hang of the Palm App Catalog, and then I'd introduce him to the joys of patches

I'm having continuing Preware installation problems. Failed Webosqi installation attempts lockup the phone and generate an "error 11" refused connection error. I can add and delete "package manager service" without issue using webosqi. I am using current version of all files involved.

I have attempted using the bootstrap install method, the preware jar installer, and the preware windows exe installer. All methods fail. Novacmd has been checked and reinstalled and windows service confirmed as running. Developer mode is on. Advice anyone.....trying to not have to doctor as the phone otherwise works well including all installed homebrew apps. Here is a verbose install.log file generated on the last attempt. It doesn't list anything noteworthy to me other than the "installation failed" line.

Lately Preware often does not load; I get a message about invalid gzip magic. If I reboot, it usually works, but that is a nuisance.

Please list the specific version numbers of all files you are using, and what version of webOS you are running.

This is the first thing that should be listed in every single problem report.

"Latest" is not a valid version number. We too often find that what people *think* is the latest is actually 2 months out of date.

Using webOS version 1.3.5.1 (most recent exchange server fix addressed) with Preware (newest version, 9.4 i believe?). I'm getting an on feeds error when ever I attempt to start up preware and it is not allowing me to load even when i disable updating feeds at start. Server side problem, or me?

I did a SYM+Orange+R & when it cane back, samt thing!

I used WebOS Repair...found nothing wrong with files

Doctor'ed it w/o a partial/full erase & when it came back I had all 5 pages on the launcher

Reinstalled PMS & Preware with bootstrap method from Terminal, and now have patches showing as installed

Gonna do a Full erase & Doctor to 1.3.5.1 later on today

I'm getting the same "TypeError: Cannot call method 'split' of undefined"

Do I really have to do all the uninstalling and reinstalling to get Preware to work again? Is there a simpler solution?

0.9.4 is far from the latest version.

Use WebOS Quick Install 2.96 or later and http://install.preware.org/ to reinstall the real latest version of preware and the package manager service.

Hello. I am having a problem. So I didn't do the brightest thing lol...While installing the "e-mail all of the contacts" patch I also was installing an app on Palm's app catalog. The device then crashed while installing the patch. The patch worked, but now I cannot access the the homebrew content using Preware. Here is a pic:

To fix this, must I reinstall the app?

    Thank you!

    Whoa!
Any reason why all 33 of my patches are asking to be updated in PreWare all of a sudden???
Did I miss a mass update thread or something?

    I am running PW v0.9.18
Is that way out of date?
