(NOTE: For people running webOS 2.0 or later, the app is now available in the app catalog! You can pick it up here: Music Player (Remix). If you're running a "FrankenPre" (Pre- or Pre+ device upgraded to webOS 2.1 using meta-doctor), you can pick it up in the Palm web feed here: Music Player (Remix) web feed edition

For people running webOS 1.4.5 or earlier, you can continue to use this free homebrew edition. It doesn't have all of the features, enhancements, and bug fixes found in the app catalog version, but it is still quite feature-packed and a great music app. The homebrew app is no longer labeled "public beta" since the final version of the app is in the catalog. It is now simply a "homebrew edition" with a subset of the features found in the app catalog version).

A new discussion thread for the official app catalog version has been created here: http://forums.precentral.net/hedami/...mix-2-0-a.html

For those of you following the Music Player (Remix) 2.0 video preview thread, you'll know that I've been working on the next-generation version of Music Player (Remix).

Well I'm happy to announce that Music Player (Remix) 2.0 Beta is being made publicly available as a homebrew app to all PreCentral users (or anyone else coming across this thread). I have uploaded it to PreCentral and is now available in the "PreCentral" feed in Preware.

The original homebrew app as of today is obsolete and has reached its end-of-life. The IPK will be removed from PreCentral. Those who wish to continue to use the old version can do so; however I highly suggest upgrading to Music Player (Remix) 2.0.

To learn more about the many new features within the app, please view the videos found here: Music Player (Remix) 2.0 video previews

For those who choose to participate in this beta, keep in mind the following:

    1) While all of the new features described below are complete, there are still known bugs (and probably unknown bugs) as well as unfinished minor features.

    2) Beta updates will probably be coming fairly regularly as I continue to modify the app. However at some point they will probably cease. Soon my codebase is going to be separated into 2 branches (the public beta, and a private version). I can't go into specifics as to why this is; however if you've been reading webOS news lately you can probably guess why.

    3) Music Player (Remix) 2.0 Beta is available to everyone for free. The only thing I ask in return is providing me feedback in regards to bugs, ideas, suggestions, new features, etc. The original homebrew thread had a lot of great interaction and I hope to continue this during the 2.0 Beta.

Here is a list of the new features found within the app:

    - "Faves" are items you can pin to your home screen for one-touch easy access. They can be songs, albums, artists, genres, playlists, or flylists.

    - "Flylists" are playlists you create and manage on-the-fly, on your device. You can now add songs, albums, artists, genres, or playlists to a flylist. And items in a flylist will update dynamically when you add new songs to your device.

    - Configuration icons at the top of the screen to force the screen to stay on while using the music app and to lock screen orientation (portrait or landscape).

    - Sleep timer configurable on the home screen

    - Newly designed "now playing" screen with finger-friendly music controls, scrolling song/artist/album info, and scrubber bar.

    - Function icons at the top of the "now playing" screen for returning to the home screen, adding the current song to a flylist or the faves list, viewing lyrics, saving a bookmark, and viewing the current playlist.

    - Ability to scrub through the current song from the "current playlist" view.

    - Ability to queue up the next song by tapping on an icon next to a song in the "current playlist" view.

    - "Playlist Preview Mode" which allows you to swipe the screen left or right to browse your current playlist via the album art without interrupting the playback of the current song. You can also queue up a song to play next by swiping up.

    - "Quick artist search" - Tapping on the song/artist/album info on the "now playing" screen will bring up the albums of the artist. You can do this in playlist preview mode as well.

    - "Universal search" - A revolutionary way to quickly find your music by simply typing. Instantly all songs, albums, artists, genres, playlists, and flylists that match your search string will appear on the screen. You can either start a new playlist with one of your search results or tap the "+" icon next to a result to add the item to the current playlist, save it to a flylist, or save it as a fave.

    - webOS 2.0 Just Type and Quick Action support (only available in the app catalog version): Find a song, album, artist, genre, playlist, or flylist by typing a search string without having to open the app first. Launch a playlist, flylist, or autolist without having to first open the app.

    - Control your music and current playlist via keyboard controls

    - "Mini-player" - Using webOS's unique notification system in a way never before implemented in a webOS app, you now have complete control over your music while using other apps. You have a scrubber bar, music controls, and the playlist preview controls all of which are configurable by the user. You can also minimize the app into a lightweight mini-player mode which removes the app's main card.

    - Wallpaper customization - Assign a custom wallpaper image for Music Player (Remix) or use the one assigned on your device. And when you can't make up your mind, let the app choose the wallpaper for you!

    - Last.FM scrobbling - Let Music Player (Remix) automatically keep track of your played songs and submit them to Last.FM.

    - Advanced manual and automatic bookmarking which include visual indicators on the Now Playing screen of any saved bookmarks within a song, the ability to quickly jump from one bookmark/chapter to another by tapping the next or previous buttons. Also bookmarks are saved automatically in every playlist and flylist so you can resume where you left off in a list.

    - Autolists (only available in the app catalog version) - Music Player (Remix) will automatically generate playlists for you based upon certain conditions such as play count and last play date.

    - Social Networking Integration: You can post your currently playing song to either Twitter or Facebook. And your followers/friends can view its YouTube video embedded on your page. Other Music Player (Remix) users can view your posted songs on the new Discovery screen.

    - Fine-tuned music controls: Tap and hold the album art on the Now Playing screen to reveal controls for skipping forwards or backwards by 5, 30, and 60 seconds. You can also use keyboard shortcuts for the fine-tuned music controls.

    - Quick shortcuts: Create Launcher shortcuts for your favorite playlists, flylists, autolists (app catalog version only), or albums. Also create shortcuts for auto-resuming and shuffling your music.

    - Album art downloading (only available in the app catalog version): You can now search the web for album art and assign your favorite image to all the songs from an album.

    - Karaoke Mode (only available in the app catalog version): Record yourself as you sing along to your favorite songs. View the lyrics of the song while recording to make sure you don't miss a beat.

    - Custom Now Playing gestures (only available in the app catalog version): Assign custom actions when swiping up or down on the Now Playing screen's album art.

    Change Log

    Version 1.99.38

    - Fix bug that results in a 105 error when retrieving lyrics.

    Version 1.99.37

    - Fix bug that could cause songs posted to Twitter to fail with a "401 Incorrect Signature" error.

    Version 1.99.36

    - Fix bug that caused the Discovery screen to fail to load

    Version 1.99.35

    - Add an optional "super-sized" album art mode for the Now Playing screen which is configurable on the Now Playing screen. When in "super-sized" mode, tapping on the left side of the album art will go to the previous track. Tapping on the right side will go to the next track. And tapping anywhere else on the album art will pause/play the music. (NOTE: This new display mode is not available on Pixis due to their limited screen height).

    - Bug Fix: Swiping on the Lyrics screen would not work if no lyrics were found for the current song.

    - If an internet connnection is not present, display this information on the Lyrics screen.

    - Update FAQ to indicate Facebook posts will appear on the Discovery screen.

    Version 1.99.34

    - Both Twitter and Facebook song posts will appear on the Discovery screen. Previously only Twitter posts appeared.

    - Amount of time since post appears below the user thumbnail on the Discovery screen.

    - Extend the width of the information on the Discovery screen when the device is in landscape orientation.

    - Bug Fix: Some of the Twitter user thumbnails were showing up as huge images on the Discovery screen.

    - Allow the user to customize the mini-player’s wallpaper separately from the main app’s wallpaper.

    - Add an option on the Preferences screen to change the behavior of swiping so that it immediately changes tracks instead of previewing them (i.e. to act like the old homebrew version of the app).

    - Add the ability to change songs on the Lyrics screen by swiping the screen.

    - Bug Fix: When adding a new flylist or changing a flylist’s name, do not trigger the music controls when the @/0, space bar, or period keys are pressed.

    - Remove the duplicate "fine-tuned controls" blurb in the Hidden Features help section.

    - Fix visual flaws in the "play all" icon.

    Version 1.99.33

    - Add a new "Discovery" item to the Home screen (at the bottom of the list). This allows you to listen and view songs that other Music Player (Remix) users are posting to Twitter. Tap on a song to load up its YouTube video. Tap on the user thumbnail to view their Twitter page.

    - Add Quick Shortcuts that allow you to easily load up your favorite playlist, flylist, autolist (webOS 2.0 only), or album by tapping on an icon in the Launcher (or universal search). You can also create Quick Shortcuts for actions such as auto-resume and shuffle-all.

    - Add keyboard controls for the new fine-tuned music controls which are as follows:

Backspace: Toggle between the scrubber bar and the fine-tuned music controls
Orange/Gray key: Go backwards by 60 seconds
Z: Go backwards by 30 seconds
X: Go backwards by 5 seconds
M: Go forwards by 5 seconds
Comma: Go forwards by 30 seconds
Enter: Go forwards by 60 seconds

    Version 1.99.31

    - Tap and hold the album art on the Now Playing screen to reveal controls for skipping forwards or backwards by 5, 30, and 60 seconds.

    - On the Now Playing screen, remove the Home icon at the top of the screen and replace it with the Minimize icon. In the old position of the Minimize icon, place a "?" icon used to display the Help screen. To go back to the Home screen, simply swipe from right to left at the top of the screen (this works on any of the app's screens).

    - Enable the "?" icon on all screens. Tapping it will display the Help screen.

    Version 1.99.30

    - Bug Fix: Fix issue where sometimes posting to Twitter or Facebook would fail because the data returned from YouTube was misformed.

    - Bug Fix: If you minimize the app and the last mini-player module is disabled, the main card will not close.

    - Bug Fix: Twitter/Facebook selections were overlapping universal search popup entries.

    - Add instructional messages on the Accounts screen after the user logs into Twitter or Facebook indicating how to post

    messages to those services.

    Version 1.99.29

    - Add link to YouTube video in Twitter and Facebook posts.

    - Bug Fix: Tapping on the previous button when the song has exceeded 4 seconds should return you to the beginning of that song, not go back to the previous song.

    - Add Easter Egg hints to Hidden Features section on help screen.

    Version 1.99.28

    - Added the ability to post songs to Twitter and Facebook

    - Added the finalized Help screen

    Version 1.99.27

    - Bug Fix: Update Last.FM scrobbler API base url to latest version. This will allow scrobbling to work again.

    Version 1.99.26

    - Bug Fix: Only 10 playlists would show up on the Playlists screen.

    - Bug Fix: A song being replayed while in repeat track mode was not scrobbled to Last.FM.

    - Bug Fix: The minimize button should be hidden on the Now Playing screen while in Playlist Preview mode.

    Version 1.99.25

    - Add universal search to all screens except the Preferences, About, and Lyrics screens.

    - Add support for keyboard music controls to all screens except the Preferences, About, and Lyrics screens. When playing or pausing music, display an on-screen play/pause indicator.

    - Add a minimize button on the Now Playing screen (where the "?" icon used to be). When tapping this button, the app's main card will be removed and the mini-player will be loaded. You can continue to control your music and current playlist while operating in a lightweight, efficient mode. Tap the headphones icon on the Scrubber Bar mini-player module to reload the app. To close the mini-player, either swipe away all mini-player modules, or tap the headphones icon and as soon as the app's main card loads, swipe it off the screen.

    - Swap the function of tapping and holding the song/artist/album information on the Now Playing screen. Tapping this information will now bring up the current song’s album. Tapping and holding this information will now bring up the current song’s artist.

    - Display the list information underneath the song name on the Bookmarks screen. For instance, if the bookmark was saved while listening to a particular genre, that genre name will be displayed since when the bookmark is restored that genre song list will be restored.

    - Sort the bookmark list by song name and saved time.

    - On Pixis, combine the artist and album info on the Now Playing screen onto one line so the album art can be elongated and made more square-like.

    - When the music index is re-building (like when a song is added to or deleted from the device), display an informational message that indicates if the process takes more than 10 seconds, they should reboot their device. Sometimes the webOS music indexer gets stuck and never allows the app to load. Rebooting fixes the issue.

    - Make the shuffle and repeat toggle buttons more color-blind friendly.

    - Remove the “Go back to card mode” buttons on the Music Controls and Preview Mode mini-player modules. This button will only be resident on the Scrubber Bar module to give the mini-player a cleaner look.

    - If a song title has a “[]” suffix and the lyric search fails, cut off the suffix and retry the lyric search.

    - Bug Fix: If a song was playing from the Faves list and the app is closed, the song would not resume playing when “Resume Play” was chosen, It would start playing the Faves list from the first item.

    - Bug Fix: Under certain conditions, the “Now Playing” button would not appear at the top of the screen after loading a new list.

    - Bug Fix: Under certain conditions, the list information would not be saved when saving a bookmark.

    - Bug Fix: Fixed issue where deleting a bookmark on the Bookmark screen would sometimes not work.

    - Bug Fix: Restoring a bookmark in the Faves list would not work if a flylist was saved in the Faves list.

    - Bug Fix: If you tried logging into Last.FM and typed in the wrong username or password, the Login button would continue to say “Logging in…” instead of “Login”.

    - Bug Fix: Tapping the “+” twice on the Now Playing screen would double the size of the “add to list” popup.

    - Bug Fix: Fix issue where sometimes the “No Faves” message would appear even when there were items saved in the Faves list.

    Version 1.99.13

    - Make all screens Pixi-friendly (NOTE: If you find any screens which are not properly formatted on the Pixi or Pre, please let me know).

    - Make all screens landscape-friendly (NOTE: If you find any screens which are not properly formatted in either portrait or landscape orientations, please let me know).

    - Add a “Play” icon at the bottom of various list screens. Tapping it will load all the songs from that particular list in the original order.

    - Add a new button to each mini-player module which when tapped will re-focus the app’s card.

    - If the user taps and holds the song/artist/album info on the Now Playing screen, it’ll load the song’s album (a quick tap of the song/artist/album info loads the song’s artist, or if the artist only has 1 album it’ll load that album).

    - Bug Fix: Under certain conditions, the app would allow the user to save duplicate items to a flylist.

    - Bug Fix: When switching between option tabs on the Preferences screen, scroll the option pane to the top.

    - Bug Fix: When loading an album in a flylist, in the Faves list, or adding an album to the current playlist via the “add to list” popup, the songs aren’t being played in the original track listing order.

    - Bug Fix: If no synced playlists are on the device, a message stating this should appear on the Playlists screen.

    - Bug Fix: Longer song durations would be displayed incorrectly on the Now Playing and Lyrics screens.

    - Bug Fix: Pause/Play indicator was not aligned properly on Lyrics screen.

    Version 1.99.5

    - Add option to Preferences screen to specify the default repeat mode.

    - Add a scroller to the Preferences screen which should allow Pixi users to access all available options.

    - Add shuffle and resume auto-bookmark options on the Home screen for the Faves list.

    - Bug Fix: Fix the scrolling of the alphabet scrollers so the letters don’t fly off the screen the first time the user scrolls to the bottom of the list.

    - Bug Fix: Fix various issues with the “Clear Faves List” option on the home screen app menu.

    - Bug Fix: When resuming a manual or auto bookmark, do not start playing the song until after the saved time has been restored. This will prevent the song from playing at 00:00 for a brief moment before it resumes at the saved time.

    - Do not display an error popup if an item is added to a flylist or faves list that already exists in that list.

    - Bug Fix: If you resume an auto-bookmark of a flylist or faves list, and you had previously started playing it on item #2 or greater, when you resume, the items before the one that was initially selected will appear twice in the resumed list.

    - As soon as the app knows it’s being shut down, stop playback of the music. This is meant to reduce the amount of time the music plays after the main card is thrown off the screen; however the main culprit in this time delay is the mini-player shutting down. So most likely this update will not decrease this delay time too much.

    Version 1.99.0

    - Initial Beta release

    Known Issues

    - Due to changes in the webOS media indexer API, the public beta version of the app will not work on webOS 2.0 which means anyone running a Pre 2 will not be able to test out the beta. My private beta build does work on webOS 2.0. And the final app catalog release will work on webOS 2.0.

    - The "use device's wallpaper" feature allows the app's minimized card to appear to be semi-transparent. However the image doesn't line up exactly under certain conditions (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build; however the card will not appear perfectly semi-transparent when resident in a stack).

    - If you save a song with a "~" in the file name to a flylist (or faves list), it won't play in the list.

    - If a song has a "?" in it, lyrics will not come up.

    - While browsing through lists is much faster in version 2.0 of the app, using the alphabet scroller (especially on letters at the end of the alphabet) can be slow. (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    - When searching for a letter using the alphabet scroller, it can sometimes put you in the middle of the letter's search results (instead of at the first item starting with that letter). (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    - Scrobbling songs with certain special characters (ex. Daníel Ágúst) can result in strange results on the Last.FM website.

    - Scrobbling while your internet connection is down will result in lost scrobbles. Caching of scrobbles has not been implemented yet.

    - Scrubber bar in the mini-player doesn't seem to update while being displayed on the device's lock screen.

    - When closing the app, music will continue to play for a few seconds. This is due to the mini-player modules shutting down.

    - If you select "Use device wallpaper" then select "Choose wallpaper", later on if you change your device's wallpaper, the app's wallpaper will be updated even though you're now using the "Choose wallpaper" option.

    - Very long files (multi-minute) can produce strange results in both the stock music app and Music Player (Remix). This may not be something I can fix; however I'm listing it here as a known issue.

    - When resuming manual and auto bookmarks, the beginning of the song sometimes plays for a brief moment before the saved time is restored (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    - The shuffle button at the bottom of the Faves list is supposed to shuffle the songs in the faves list, but currently it doesn't do this. It simply generates a random first song and then plays all the other ones in order. (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    - If you save a song in a flylist, faves list, or as a manual bookmark, then move the location of the file, the flylist, faves list, or bookmark will not load properly. (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    - If you have the same item within multiple flylists (or the faves list) and you re-order that item within one of the lists, re-ordering of items within those lists will no longer work properly. (NOTE: This is fixed in the private beta build).

    Latest Beta build

Version 1.99.38 available in the PreCentral homebrew gallery: http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-a...-remix-20-beta

The latest beta build should also be available in Preware ("PreCentral" feed).

When I restarted the app, it fixed itself. I don't know maybe it was just a one time user error...

Until recently I never used Last.FM, but now that I've been scrobbling, it really is pretty neat how it keeps track of everything you listen to.

Without question you have an app worth buying. Your dedication is awesome, and your app shows just what this OS is capable of. It should be the default player for ANY future WebOS device. I dont know how long it will take me to learn how to maximize its function but I'll let you know! Thank you!

As expected the Universal Search is simply amazing. The UI is impressive too. Great work. Now I only have one problem, which music app to buy come 2.0 I love competition but man it makes choices difficult sometimes

I'm sure you already know but occasionly when resuming play after restarting the app there is a break or hiccup of the song just before it starts up full time.

Yeah universal search is probably my most used feature. I think of a song (or album, artist, whatever) I want to listen to and I just start typing. By the way, right now universal search is only implemented on the Home and Now Playing screens. Eventually I will port it over to the other screens.

And with webOS 2.0's Just Type, it'll be even better. Both within the app and outside of it, you'll be able to "just type" and find what you're looking for.

I think you should buy them all! People seem to buy multiple twitter clients...why not music players too?

Speaking of Last.FM, I've been in contact with someone on their team and they answered a few questions/concerns I had about their commercial API agreement. The representative let me know that they don't charge for use of their scrobbling service, so that's good! I submitted the application and we should be good to go.

I love the app. So far I noticed that when trying to save a bookmark(something i accidentally clicked) I get

    Error
Unable to save bookmark - no such column: songName

I tried to reproduce and I get it everytime.

Clicking on bookmarks for me also leads to an error of

    Error
Error while retrieving bookmarks - no such column: currentSong
