Hey all,

this is the thread to my little app ClassicNote.

Are you missing that simple but mostly adequate Notes/Memos app from good-old PalmOS 1.x-5.x?
Than ClassicNote is for you!
Do you have some memos on your PalmDesktop, Tungsten, Treo or Centro you would like to keep their category and fast accessabilty?

Please be aware: the App is almost out of beta-testing. But there still could hide some bugs or errors. I'm not responsible for any data losses or harm to your pre this app could do. Install on your own risk...




PS: the GUI is in english - only my demo-notes are german :P


Manual Backup Instructions:

• make sure ClassicNote is closed now
• connect your Pre in USB-drive mode
• backup the *.db file in the following path:
  for webOS 1.3.1
  x:\.app-storage\file_.var.usr.palm.applications.com.littlestick.classicnote_0\
  for webOS 1.3.5 and later
  x:\.app-storage\file_.media.cryptofs.apps.usr.palm.applications.com.littlestick.classicnote_0\
  (where x is the drive letter of your Pre media partition)

• new: private-flag for single memos - those memos stay hidden until you enter the "private" password
• new: encrypted-flag for categories - those categories (and the corresponding memos) stay hidden until you enter the password for the decryption.
  the memos of this categories are saved encrypted using the webOS base64 Blowfish algorithm.
• new: assign a template-memo to a category: the template will be used when assigning the category to a memo or you create a new memo with this category
• new: select a color for a category. Color up your memo list...
• fix: save category changes without tapping away from the list
• new: saved preferences: restore last selection (category + sort by), default startup settings
• new: saved preferences: show auto links in memos

27.12.09 - 0.1.7

• new: order memo-list by category (incl. category as divider label)
• new: automagically insert true links for urls and email-addresses.
• new: info-button in memo edit mode
• new: info-button in category edit mode

Planned Features:

• little (PC)-desktop app for editing and writing memos
• any kind of true sync between Pre and that PC-app. Most probably using a server for ota-sync.
• enter an alarm to a memo
• link an image to a memo
• a lot of features for organizing the memos like:
  • give keywords to memos and list symbols/colors corresponding to the keywords in the memo-list
  • order memos by hand (kind of give a priority)
  • subordinate memos below another memo (kind of tree structure)
• already wished features - I'm not so sure of:
  • landscape mode - you won't get more space and can't use the keyboard
  • white text on black screen - to be honest - this is a note app - not an eBook reader
  • PD4, Outlook-Sync - maybe - but the PC app has a higher prio for me...

This is a great app.... thank you! I love that you can import from Palm Desktop and that it's searchable. So helpful.

Are you able to email the memos??? That would be a nice addition.

i have 1000 memos and 14 categories. It imported all categories but just 50+ memos. Do you currently have a limit?

I was so excited to try this one out but got a little disheartened.

hmm - no - there's no limit. I've tested with ~200 memos without any problems. What shows the importer as No. of memos on the left?
Was the reported import result 50?
Do you have any memos with no category (or "not defined") on your PD? That could be a problem - I just realized, that those won't get imported at all!

I will look into that tomorrow...

yes it accurately showed the number of memos on the left. and the reported result was 50+. I do have memos without categories but those with categories are definitely more than 50.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I just selected all my apps on the Palm Desktop and changed their categories into one existing category and whoalla!!

1000 memos on my Pre!

so apparently I had more Unfiled memos than I thought I had.

And may I add...

All the formatting I had on my memos through WordSmith on my palm OS were visible!! (like underlines, bold, italics)

SWEET!!


Now if it only can sync back to the desktop I would be Golden! (I know that's kinda pushing it)

Still it definitely will be in my top 5 used apps.

Okay, I must be dense...how do you import from the desktop? I download the ipk and installed the pre app. What then?

How about syncing, or at least importing, with/from Outlook? It is still much faster to utilize the primary PC for entry throughout the work day. Adding capability to sync would be golden.

This is the finest app I've downloaded! I had 576 memos in 15 catagories on my Palm Pre and Desktop. I don't use Outlook so paying $30-40 for those programs that sync outlook with the pre (just so I could get memos) wasn't high on my list. I use my memos daily and have been missing them almost more than anything else on the pre. Thank you so much for attacking and solving this weak link in web0s!!!! I followed your instructions (making sure there were no unfiled memos) and everything imported flawlessly. Not ONE error! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Is there any hope that ongoing syncing with the Desktop could become a reality? That would be icing on the cake. This is an app I'd gladly pay for!!!
