    Description:
segment is a fun tile based game where the player tries to fit falling tile pieces into a continuous set of horizontal tiles on the screen. The game uses the accelerometer to make it more interesting and challenging.

Points are awarded each time a sequence of tiles is completed and extra points are awarded for using the down button.

    Controls:

    * To play simply tilt your prprpr&#$275$; $left$ $and$ $right$ ($like$ $you$ $would$ $a$ $car$ $steering$ $wheel$) $to$ $move$ $the$ $falling$ $piece$ $left$ $or$ $right$.

    * Hit the down button to slam the piece below

    * Hit the rotate button to rotate the falling piece

looks great. I don't see it in preware yet. Can't wait to try it out and give feedback.

It's a tough game somewhat due to the flakeyness of the
accelerometer, and sometimes you just can't move the
pieces sideways fast enough even with the Pre held sideways.
Also seems like if I move it very fast one way, and then try to
stop and go back the other way a step or two, it takes a while
for the accelerometer to realize I've switched directions. I've ended up
leaving a lot of large gaps way out near (but not at) the edge
because I overshoot by one and can't get it back. Problem
compounds itself of course as the stack grows higher.

Thanks for your feedback, Ian. What high score could you manage ?

The accelerometer is a tough thing to get working right partly due to technical limitations of the pre and partly due to each person having a different expected sensitivity threshold. I am thinking about implementing a input profiles that players can choose and see which works for them.

I don't know if it would help but this is how the controls work internally (roughly)

Copy the .ipk Download URL above, and paste it into FileCoaster.

Understanding the zones is not really the problem. What is
probably internal averaging, causes it to act like the piece has momentum.
If I just tip the Pre on its side, it takes a while before the piece gets
up to speed. But the killer is when I have to get it to the side fast
and then back up a column or two, I go fast one way, and then tilt
it back the other, and it just ignores the rapid change in direction for
a full second (while it's still falling of course). If it's a hardware
limitation (which it probably is), it's going to make it extremely hard
to implement any sort of action games using the tilt sensor.

The other glitch I notice, is probably tied to garbage collection.
I'll tilt one way, it'll pause and then jump like 4 columns to the side
very quickly. It smells like the game is paused during that moment
which is probably while it does GC.

I've added it to the app listing, it hasn't showed up yet. (Probably awaiting moderator approval.)

I think I know what you mean. My general idea was to let the player use the maximum speed (and low accuracy) of zone2 to get the piece roughly in place as its falling and then use the finer zone1 to align it in place as it comes down. (hoping that the player wouldn't need to move more than 1-2 colums either side and have enough time to do so).

Can you try this: Let the piece fall freely and keep the pre at a slight tilt for a while. The behavior should be roughly one sideways move per down move.

IMO, Its tough to get perfect-twich behavior as the accelerometer doesn't give me updates fast enough to let me implement that. But ofcource, whining here wont change that..

Yes that does sound like the GC. I don't get that too often when I'm play testing the game and usually get that when I have some apps in the b/g. I'm trying to optimize the game as much as possible to avoid that being an issue. I'm going to work on the game a bit this weekend and see if I can make some useful changes.

I am having the same exact problem as KAPILK.
can't wait for it to get adjusted & updated.

    sounds exciting!

    thanx

    Love this game!!!
I have the pixi and I was wondering if they was a way I can adapt it to my screen size?!? Or maybe there is another app and I have the wrong one. I can't hardly reach the buttons and it's making me mad...but I can't stop playing the game.
