I can open the pages I put there from the pre's browser, just not from another computer...

You need to update your IPTables. Try issuing this from a command line:

    /usr/sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p TCP --dport 8081 -j ACCEPT

That did it.. it must not be executing the startup script... wonder why? I probably didnt set it up right. how do I add it properly? I used what was listed in the wiki page...

edit.. tried it again after reloading the start-up script and rebooting.. script not starting up I'm guessing...

I am not sure. You would need to make sure you have the script in the proper directory with permissions.

that I'm not sure, but I am sure it's just not using the script... manually started lighttpd and used the command line to change the iptables and now it works... is there something I'm missing in making a startup script? its in the etc/event.d/ directory what else do I need to do?

    Here is mine for Apache:

    description "Apache"
    version 1.0

    # don't start until the WebOS finishes it's normal boot
    # that way no delay is added to the GUI startup
    start on stopped finish
    stop on runlevel [!2]

    console output

    script
    /usr/sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p TCP --dport 8000 -j ACCEPT
    /opt/etc/init.d/S70mysqld start
    /opt/etc/init.d/S70net-snmp start
    /opt/etc/init.d/S80apache
    end script

Also make sure to set it 755.

here is what is in mine posted at the webos internals site:

    # don't start until the WebOS finishes it's normal boot
    # that way no delay is added to the GUI startup
    start on stopped finish
    stop on runlevel [!2]

    # Restart the lighttpd daemon if it exits/dies
    respawn

    exec /opt/sbin/lighttpd -f /opt/etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf

    pre-start script
    /usr/sbin/iptables -D INPUT -p tcp --dport 8081 -j ACCEPT || /bin/true
    /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 8081 -j ACCEPT
    end script

how do I set it 755?

ok... used chmod on file, rebooted, I can access the regular pages I put there, but not the php file anymore... will try again in a bit, but if I manually use the second iptables command it works...

edit: yep after reboot again I cannot access either. I dont think the startup script is being ran when starting up. any ideas how to get it to use it or why its not working?

edit2: seems to be working now... added
    /opt/etc/init.d/S80lighttpd start
to startup script check'd it about 10min later and still working.. will check in morning...

Works like a charm. Got free php hosting from vndv.com and created a sub domain and all is good. Does drain the battery some. Thanks for making this!

i will post the source when i get around to it, then you guys can make the update time customizable for ur varied amount of battery drain desired

D0lph1n, how good are you with the GoogleMaps API? I have a script that uploads GPS data to a MySQL database. I was going to try and import it into the GoogleMaps API, but not even sure where to start with it.

Would be nice, if you had the time, to just make a preferences card where users could set the update time there instead of having to go through all the trouble of editing the source and repackaging it for their phone every time they wanted to change the update time. I can see times where I'd want it to update often, I can see times where I might want to set it to update not so often.

Love it! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch. Hope you release the update to change how often it updates soon.

Is the user configurable version for the time still in progress? I noticed the last update was on 8/17 and it was going to be done over the weekend. Thanks!
