With Palms stuff, I don't know a way.
I could probably add that to PMP sounds app when it's done being overhauled. Give you the choice of folder.
Leme see what I can do.

We've noticed that on sounds too - it seems to be something with Palm's built in streaming sound app. We'll try and add our own to the app, in time.

I don't understand -- why are no developers putting their apps on here?
  8. #168
Any way to have a most downloaded or highest rated function for screens and ringtoned? That way the crappy ones get weeded out

Well, think about it - once there are 10 different on-device application installers, and each has their own proprietary feed format, then an author will have to maintain the uploading of new versions of their app to 10 different places.

That's why I have been advocating the use of the standard ipkg feed format (which has been standardised for over 5 years, and an example of which is at ipkg.preware.org), so that an author can upload an application to *any* *one* of the repositories, and *every* on-device app installer that supports the standard repository feed format can then be configured to access applications from *all* of those repositories.

Haven't we learnt time and time again in computing that not following established interoperability standards just kills the marketplace?

rwhitby is right on. I have one app in development right now (BreakOut Clone) that I considered posting, but held off because I didn't want to make a commitment (right now, at least) to keeping it updated on PreLoad and PreCentral. The same goes for my 3 other apps. At this point, I am willing to sit tight and see what other homebrew distribution solutions come out and then commit myself to the one that I think deserves my support. I personally don't feel comfortable sending my app to a closed system. I release my app for free because I want to allow EVERYONE to download it.

The above is not to say PreLoad isn't a good piece of software, I actually think it is the best solution a available currently. Hopefully, the community can take what has been learned so far separately, and proceed forward together.

Yeah, this might not be the best solution in most developers eyes', simply because of having to maintain updates on multiple platforms. But this is still a very solid app that is just perfect for things like ringtones, wallpapers, etc. For things that don't need to be updated on a regular basis, it doesn't get much easier than this.

The it's going to come down to the developer where they want it seen and who uses it. Even though everyone may end up with a standard package feed, that doesn't mean they will make it available to all repo's.

May be better for developers to host their own apps with a standard feed.
if they want access to many users.

A new version is being opushed to you that updates some maneuvering problems and going to the top of the list. There are also enhancements to the message board and a settings button where you can specify a folder to download your ringers, sounds and wallpapers to.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

why would you need it. if your app allowed to add a feed source manually, the host of the source could not say boo. think 'cydia'
  17.    #177
We're working on adding it - emailed Rod too.

And the way you mention makes the repo available only to the one who added it. We would like to make feeds available to everyone, when they're added.

Looks really good. All developers should put apps in here. It makes life so much easier.

Thank you for your hard work.

I don't get why PreCentral isnt making a big deal out of this. It is the next big step and should be recognized, just as filecoaster and quick install was....

I have a question. In the future, is this going to turn into something where you add sources and stuff? (to get more repos) Because no one seems to be willing to submit their stuff as it is? Rod makes a good point though.

Thanks for your work, this is awsome!

To everyone: I submitted well over 1200 sounds/ringtones a couple days ago, and they should be up soon. ENJOY!

Thanks kingjain! And you sounds/ringtones should go in sometime tonight!

I know Pre Central has a big release of their own, the V2 Gallery, so I don't blame them for not getting back to us about a feed. They seem pretty busy. I do believe their release is going to either coincide with or be a part of filecoaster though. Maybe that's a reason?
