Amazing stuff. Probably my favorite homebrew app so far. Though kinda laggy every so often.

Made a fair amount. Some people donate 1 cent, others 5 dollars and others $10. All of them got a copy and frequent updates while i was working on it.

I think the app is now ready to be tested for more people.

I don't know o_O. I hope so I can work on more apps.

I'm glad to see working High Score collection in this version. Haven't tested sounds/music yet but that was working pretty much in the previous 3.5, still a bit of lag which is disappointing since it's the only drawback I can think of.

This app is much much more polished than even official apps like Spades that was just released yesterday. I feel like Palm might be feeling the heat of the HomeBrew community so they released some beta app in the official catalog so people might stop complaining a little.
    Thank you

I'm working on the lag right now =).

Best Palm Pre game. By far. I wonder what Palm is waiting for. This should be in the app store yesterday.
Thank you TheMarco. I'm glad to see your comment and see that we are cool now :P

Well I got an email from Palm asking me to fix some issues in 0.3.7 so they could put it in the Catalog. I already sent them the latest version. It should be there maybe by the end of the month? hard to tell.

    I have a couple suggestions/issues:

-The gesture controls aren't very responsive (I'm sure you knew this before me telling you)

-Also, I think rotating the piece would be easier by just tapping the screen

-Moving the piece from side to side should be by dragging the piece (like in iPhone Tetris)

-After choosing the level, there is a brief moment when the playing screen shows right before
the gesture guide pops up. (This also happened in previous versions but I haven't reported it
    until now)

-I think the music should pause when in card mode.

-On the gesture guide at the bottom it says "turn of screen buttons by taping settings" (should be "tapping")

Those are the first things I could find/think of. I still love the game though!!!!!

    Edit:

I have this issue also. I'm sure he'll fix this later on.

Thanks for the extended feedback and testing. I'm working on this issues. Your time testing this app helps a lot.

This app is so amazingly polished. I love the music too. Can't wait to see what future versions hold.

Great game. glad you made it an open beta. If you think you've perfected the tetris aspect, a fun thing to do is have a challenge mode. Clear these lines with these specific bricks. You choose the brick to fall, and have to get it just right. its challenging, but fun.

Awesome job, well done. Music is great, sounds, animated title page... very professional polished job. But since you wanted more input....

    * At the end of game, it just stops and the Add My Score button pops up. It should say that the game has ended. It's obvious, I know, but there should be some kind of closure. Could also be some kind of sound effect, change in the music, etc.

    * In the docs, at the very end there is a very brief explanation about what the game is all about. It should be at the beginning of the docs. Wouldn't hurt to expand it a sentence or two in case someone on the planet has never seen Tetris before.

    * On the Tap To Begin screen with the gesture map, at the bottom it says "... by taping setting on the home screen". That should be "tapping".

    * The docs say "Rotate Right... coming soon" but in fact you've already implemented rotate right and left for W/O.

    * There is a little bit of occasional lag, but since the whole game stops (it doesn't just continue while you can't enter anything) I don't think it is a big issue.

    * Gestures, on the other hand, are not responsive enough, especially for the two rotate gestures. They don't seem to work 100% which makes it very hard to play using gestures and not the keyboard.

For high scores, it would be nice to also see the date/time so you know how well you have done over time. Maybe just have it where you tap on a score you see the date/time so as to not clutter the screen?

Also, the gesture controls are a huge improvement, but they still need a good amount of tweaking for responsiveness.

    Very nice progress.

    Very cool.

I do have to say that I'm not too fond of the turn left, and turn right, kind of a deviation from the original. Then I saw that I could reprogram the keyboard controls, So I set them back to your first version. I love that the on-screen hints reflect my reprogrammed state.

I would like a way to pause the game with out minimizing it, I have had it start a new game when I try to restore it. Perhaps a keyboard command for pause or something.

One other note, I was playing it with the music turned on in frount of my wife (she didn't know what it was at the time). She thought it sounded "Like a porno".

And as others have mentioned, it dose lag at times, I know you are working on that.

I know it sounds like all I have are complaints, I really do like it. Thanks for reposting it here.

I am one of the users who donated to get blockdrop before the latest ..8 version for free. I am glad to see it back for free as this is one of the better if not the best game so far for the Pre. I'm not bothered I paid either as I've been enjoying this great game for weeks vs. just getting it now.

One note: The new version does not give you the option (at least not that I'm aware of) to choose between "gestures" and the keypad controls. I downloaded the new free update featuring gestures and immediately uninstalled it to go back to my previous ..7 version. The screen size and frankly overall feel is considerably better with the keyboard vs. gestures.

Getting a choice between either would be better, but if it's one or the other, I'll go with the keyboard anyday.

    Hope that's helpful.

    Great game!

your hard work was well worth it, thanks

Didn't want to read through 29 pages, but I have a couple suggestions/feedback.

It would be nice to have a hold placement. Some tetris variants have this, basically pushing a button holds the piece currently falling and brings out the next one. When you want to use the one you have held, hit the button again and you switch it out for the new one currently falling. This allows some nice combos(such as a double tetris).

When a falling block collides with blocks already set, it seems as though it just automatically sticks there. Usually if you keep rotating the block when it hits them, it will allow you to rotate it until you see fit, not just end all movement right there.

The gesture controls is a nice idea, and I know its brand new, but I couldn't play a game actually using them. Way to hard to rotate.

I've had tetris addictions in the past, and this might bring it back. A highscore table that could pull highscores from your contacts would be amazing. I'm competetive, and being able to see something like that would keep me on this app. I was thinking it could be achieved through a facebook app. Block drop sends your scores to facebook, pulls your friends scores from it as well.

Besides that, more game modes are just about all I can think of. I'm loving the game, and I must say the keyboard controls are awesome. Playing this is so much easier than on my ipod touch. Keep up the good work!

Edit: also, it would be nice not to see the gesture guide before every game. Once is enough for me. :P

Maybe I am just slow here, but I really liked the .7 version touch screen controls. Quite a good piece of work. Nothing "lame" about them at all. But now I will download .8 and try re-learning a bunch of new gestures - "intuitive" I sure hope! Watching the actual development of an excellent game app like BlockDrop has been a pleasure.

You can use both keys and gestures in .8 without changing any settings. You can switch right in the middle of the game, you can use both keys and gestures together.

    Hahaha.
Once blocknroll was released this guy makes his app free. It reminds me a little of standard oil.

Trying to get this installed.. keep getting "not enough space" message. Can't decide what to delete. Can't wait until this limitation on the Pre is done away with.

    EDIT: Fart app removed

Great game. My only feedback is that when you are using the spacebar on the keyboard to drop it is really easy to drop multiple bricks in error. Perhaps a slight delay in being able to drop the brick after it appears would resolve.

Wow, i couldn't believe i was looking at a homebrew app when i loaded this up.

GREAT work...this makes me confident we can still get some pretty flashy games from developers.

(Pop cap i'm looking at you....if you port Peggle over I will be a happy man).

Your app (or maybe filecoaster's installation) messed the sound on my pre up. The music didn't work and then turned all of my phones sounds through the speakers off. This means music, system notification, everything. It's like the silent switch was turned on.

After uninstalling your app, it worked just fine again. Any thoughts?
