Email Notifications on 1.4

After I updated to 1.4, when I get an email and the screen is off, after I turn on the screen, the email notification is minimized (I don't know if that's the right terminology or not, but it's not viewable and instead just shows the envelope icon). Before, when you powered on the screen, the email notification would enlarge so I could see the email icon and the subject/first few lines of the email.

It's not a huge problem, but it seems silly to keep having to click on the minimized envelope each time I get an email.

Any ideas? Is this just me?
