Email app shows new messages but none there

My imap mailbox is reporting 4 new messages, but they're definitely not there. I checked on my regular imap client and my shell account. Something is clearly screwy with the phone's email app. I could probably delete the account and recreate it in less time that it took me to post this question, but I'd rather try to fix it on the phone.

I've already rebooted the phone. I'm not sure what the other reset options do, but they sound destructive so I haven't tried them. My Pre is rooted and I have SSH access to it so if there's anything I can do internally, I'd love some pointers. Anyone have some suggestions?

Well, after 24 hours (exactly) it managed to resolve itself.
