Same issue. webOS tells me to check my Google account info. I was still getting mail etc. So while it wanted me to verify, it was still getting my stuff. Reboot did nothing for it. Kept happening since yesterday. I deleted my Gmail account and can't add it back. Putting in the password just gives an "unknown error". I tried to add my gmail account on my Go with a fresh dr. Same error there too. Changed my Gmail password...didn't help. Tried this How to Unlock Gmail for a New Email Program or Service - About Email no dice. Anyone else having an issue? Would setting up two step verification help? Help! Thanks.
I had the same problem after changing my Google login as advised following the HeartBleed debacle. Out of desperation I eventually deleted my Google account, but perhaps I would have been wiser to have left it intact as I consequently lost my Calendar Account which appeared to be still present and accessible prior to removal of the Google Account. However I have managed to recover my Gmail account by manually adding it as an email account.

The settings required are as on Google's Gmail Help "Get Started with IMAP and POP3" for enabling "IMAP" on configuration instructions for "Other" devices.

Just wish I could find a way to get my Google Calendar back.

It sounds like you haven't done this: [Patch] Google sync https fix (unknown error on sign in)

Starting on 3/31, Google changed the contacts API to redirect all http requests to https (look for m8, which is part of the URL string), and the webOS library isn't following the redirect. I changed http to https in two files in the google contacts service and have it working again. Going to create a patch file and post it as soon as I can - not sure if it will be tonight or not. For enterprising users, the files are here (on webOS 2.2.4, not sure about others yet..):
    /usr/palm/services/com.palm.service.contacts.google/javascript/assistants
    checkcredentialsassistant.jsjsjs $and$ $syncassistant$.$js$ $are$ $the$ $two$ $that$ $need$ $to$ $be$ $edited$.

    Source: https://developers.google.com/google...v3/http-update
thanks Matt. Editing those two files to https fixed it like a charm.

You're welcome. There is a third file that has to be edited or changes made to existing contacts on your device won't sync back to the Google servers. It's a more complicated edit. I recommend changing the other two files back and just installing the patch located in the patch thread: [Patch] Google sync https fix (unknown error on sign in)

I'm not a Google email user but I get the same "Unknown Error" message on my Veer when trying to add my email account. Started happening 4/18/14. Here's what's happening - 1. Received the "Application Database Full" warning over the past week. Restarted the phone to reboot to see if it helped. 2. Plugged phone in to the computer to delete some pdf files and pictures. 3. Removed some apps that I didn't use. 4. tried to remove email account and reload because email fails to synch quite often. 5. Failed to connect to email and keep getting Unknown Error. 6. Now I cannot send or receive text messages since then.

Any ideas? I have phone service, my data plan works, I can access the web browser and all other apps appear to function correctly. Just email and texts are affected.

I learn as I go in terms of lingo and fixes, but am willing to try anything and can follow directions pretty well if anyone has a suggestion.

I see a few unrelated issues, but for the Google contact sync issue, you need to install the patch linked in the post before yours.

I'm also getting the ILLEGAL Token error. Unfortunately Encapsula seems to be blocking me for the last day or so from posting on the "[Patch] Google sync https fix (unknown error on sign in)" thread:
[Patch] Google sync https fix (unknown error on sign in)

I'm troubleshooting it further, but would appreciate any further anecdotes from your experiences.

    Thanks!

    Carren,

You may want to look at:
"The application database is almost full"?
Workaround for Application Database is Full error | webOS Nation
MojoDB Partition Resize - WebOS Internals

I followed these sorts of instructions to get my Pre3 working again when the database got "nearly full". It was quite fiddly, but did work. You may need to change the GB figures to match your device's flash drive size. I also had to force the partition unmount.

Had to doctor(2.2.4) my VEER and I cannot get my gmail to login even with the new patch. Not sure what to do. Password has nothing but numbers and letters. It was working just yesterday morning. After the doctor I cannot log in. :/
