i've already moved forward from the point i needed help. But I welcome comments to what i've experienced if you can help educate me.

for future web searchers looking for help in a similar situation:

    1. i deleted and reinstalled the meta-doctor folder to overcome the first problem reported below.
    2. i shut off the network time and rolled the clock back to 7/22/13 to overcome the second prob.
    3. i installed Internalz Pro and disabled the Update Daemon to overcome the 3rd prob.

    ******************

below is the output from my latest attempt to redoctor my frankenpre2. THE LAST LINES pasted below indicate two errors.

    Suggestions?

i've built meta-dr. scripts here before. last time i installed the 2.1.0. this time as you can see below, i'm trying to push the 2.2.4.

i'm wondering if i need to delete some stuff, or install some stuff, to correct this. i have no idea. ALL HELP IS SINCERELY APPRECIATED!!

copied direct from the terminal window in ubuntu. you can see i did the "git pull, make clobber" as suggested when it's not the first time. but obviously it's not happy. what is wrong??

i'm deleting the meta-doctor folder completely, which i haven't done before, and trying again.

suggestions on the errors above still very much welcome.

also, within the middle of that script build, is some other error dialog i don't understand. advice/explanation of that too is very welcome.

i just did a full erase on the phone, blew out the backup, deleted from the hp profile site, and phone is in recovery mode waiting for me to run a dr. and connect when prompted.

    OOH. IT'S WORKING.
it appears to have rebuilt the meta folder and created the doctor. it's past 15% install now to the phone. i hope this works!

OK. IT APPEARS TO HAVE INSTALLED CORRECTLY
BUT now to figure out the app cat update issue. i know that's explained here somewhere.

so fortunately the meta-doctor file reinstall worked.

if anyone wants to reply to explain what i experienced here, i'd be glad to learn why/what happened. i wish there was a webOS legacy users seminar to teach us all what this stuff we do actually means. i'm so clueless, but sure glad this site is here!

great. i opened the Software Updater app to check if my Cert Update was up-to-date, and now the dang phone wants to download 2.2.4 OTA.

I suspect this will jack up my meta-doctor 2.2.4 install. it seemed to screw up my meta-dr 2.1.0 install, which is why i am redoctoring to begin with.

I can't seem to figure out how to force-stop the OTA that is "queued up" and waiting to self-install.

any suggestions now?? run the meta-dr again, then shunt the OTA update feature with a linux command? is there an easier way?

WHY IS WEBOS EVEN TRYING TO INSTALL THE 2.2.4 WHEN THE CARRIER IS SET TO VERIZON? I am confused.

UPDATE: ok i went into the makefile, uncommented the DISABLE UPDATE DAEMON line, and saved. then set the JAR properties to 'executable', and opened with java. the Dr. is running again. hopefully this time it will install the metaDr without letting the OTA updater function. I hope this works.

again, even hindsight advice is appreciated! i've re-doctored like a dozen times and i still am guessing at what i'm doing most of the time. i'd like to learn more about what i'm doing. i feel like i'm playing darts with a strobe light on.

    hopefully this works.

UPDATE: it did not. solution posted below...provided this thing boots up and looks ok!

Interesting... just too bad i have nothing to contribute.

    In any case, Good luck

    argh.
i just re-ran the meta-doctor, and i thought i followed the instructions to uncomment the "disable update daemon", but after all that it is again trying to pull an OTA of 2.2.4. NO! argh.

i will search how to stop it once it's already aware of it, if possible.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

thx, Remy. no worries, i am clueless as usual. haha i sure wish i knew what i was doing. i appreciate the support support tho!

UPDATE: found a thread here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8559-guid...dates-from-hp/
suggesting to use Internalz Pro (available thru Preware) to set the Update Daemon to -x -x -x.

i just rebooted, opened the System Updates app, and sure enough, it's just "checking" indefinitely. No icon that a package awaits for download. Yay! Hopefully OTA will now leave my custom metaDr install alone.

Now I can resume hoping that this most recent metaDoctoring improves my phone's performance. I think this is the first time I've installed the meta-sprint-franken 2.2.4 version. (Please please please improve performance!)

in case anyone ever reads these...

just following up to say a month gone by and performance does seem improved. fewer frustrated battery pulls.

i had also done the tweaks to "improve evdo performance" suggested in the thread on this site, to modify the buffer. this appears to have improved data reconnectivity, like when a new song cues on Pandora. much faster. far less hangups.
