i feel like the old lady who lived in a shoe, but i've got so many phones i don't know what to do!
could some clearer minds please advise me!
1. i'm using my Pre- daily. It's been working dependably for years, but it's been having issues lately, particularly with streaming Pandora and maintaining a data connection. But I can't tell if that's Pandora, Sprint network, or the phone itself.
2. I have a Pre2 but i broke the glass. It was Franken'd with the afore-mentioned Pre- comm board. I bought it used with a Sprint board in it, and that's what it has now. It works, even with the broken glass, but it's been in airplane mode since i UNfranken'd it. I've turned it on briefly and it sees Sprint network (5 bars but no EV) but all its ##data settings are the same as the Pre-, so I leave it in Airplane for fear of conflict.
3. I have 2 Pre3's. One of them is currently on T-Mobile's cheapest prepaid. I'm using it to monitor their "HSPA+ migration from 1700 to 1900. (When in range, it switches from "E" to "3G". speedtest results on 3G have tested 3-9Mbps! but coverage is still too spotty in Atlanta) The 2nd Pre3 I bought after dropping the Pre2, and figured it'd be smart to have a backup parts donor for this rare bird. It also serves as a charger for the 4 spare batteries I stocked up on. The most expensive battery charger evah! ha (when i think about that i question my sanity)
A) So with a week's pay invested in Pre3 hardware, I really want to move up to the Pre3 for daily use. But until there's 3G everywhere it's just an EDGE phone, so web browsing is awful. Also, its Pandora hangs up more than the Pre-. It pauses at 57 seconds like every 3 songs. I use a BT headset, so Apollo is not a solution.
B) I've been looking for a donor screen for the Pre2, which I could re-Franken and use on Sprint until the T-Mo service improves (if that even happens) but Pre2s are selling for like $60 and up. I cannot justify spending that much more money on hardware, particularly if I'm going to move to the Pre3. I could swap the Pre- screen to it with its comm board; basically a Franken surgery with face transplant too! hahah (the thing may as well have a green cover and bolts sticking out of its neck)
Right now, neither the Pre- nor the Pre3 will stream Pandora continuously without issues, and that's really my main frustration. And my primary use, besides texting/calling/email/web browsing/maps
When I start to think about what to do, and I come here to read for advice. What should I try? How do I diagnose my problems? I can't just Doctor and re-Doctor them all away, just as we can't just 'pull the battery' every time the phone acts up. That's not a solution, that's a detour.
Of course I see all the threads with Pre3 problems posted, and I start to wonder if I should give up and move to another OS. But ugh, windows/android/BB? yuk! none of them appeal to me at all. I am not desiring ANYONE else's phone I've seen. I've always loved webOS and the 'pebble' portrait slider hardware. (this is about when I want to launch a nuke at HP for letting it die instead of selling it to someone, anyone who'd have kept it going)
But here is where I also see PLENTY of signature taglines of people who are successfully daily driving various models of Pre. So I KNOW it can be done, and there must be a way to be happy. I'm not asking for the unobtainable (am I??). I don't care about app catalog size, or battery life, or a giant screen, or streaming video, or LTE either.
SO, I ASK OF THOSE WHO ARE HAPPILY DAILY-USING A WEBOS PHONE, please reply here with your suggestion of a rational course of action to follow, so I too can be happy with what I think is the best designed phone I've ever used. seriously!
i sincerely thank anyone who replies. I confess my life is boring and lonely, but the Pre was one of the few things I really found pleasure in. So much so I didn't mind swapping out 5 bad refurbs before getting my good ol' #7. Then Pandora started acting up, maybe Sprint started changing their service, and now I don't know what to do anymore.
