Hasn't there been a count a year or two ago? With some app that counted the number of active profiles on the profileserver or somesuch?? Wouldn't this be the place to count? The profiles?

There were hundreds of thousands of Touchpads sold in the firesale. Reportedly 250k from Best Buy alone, so a lot more than that in total.

There's probably a decent number of them still out there (I'd guess at least 100k considering it's only a year old), but most of those people are probably just treating it as a cheap web browsing tablet and maybe never even bought/downloaded any apps. So the actual "community" is a lot smaller than that.

most of those firesale buyers only got the touchpad because of the cyanogen android efforts at the time, I'm guessing far more got a cheap android tablet rather than webos.

probably easier finding how many devices are registered to google play as "cm_tenderloin"

This time last year, Whitman said that the user base was 700,000 or so - that was never broken down further but it is likely that the majority of those were touchpads.

Given churn, breakage and the like - I would not be surprised if phone users were now in the low tens of thousands.

CGK, that's probably a pretty near estimate.

I'd feel hard pressed to go over 50,000 phones out there running webOS...and you wouldn't want to see me hard pressed*...

This year, Astraware came out with some TouchPad versions of about 5 or 6 of their games, and I think the total number of purchased games passed the 8,000 mark. I'll bet most of those purchases were from members or readers of this forum. Some of those purchases were multiple purchases from the same user. In other words, Fred bought Odd Blob, then decided to buy Casino, then decided to buy Suduko. So out of the 8,000 purchases, I would estimate about 4,000 unique TouchPads.

By the way, regarding the Mobile HotSpot, Kataran, were you telling the young lady that FreeTether on the Pre2 would serve her needs (pretty simple to do and use) or that she could use Mobile Hot Spot on her Pre2 for free (much more difficult for the average Joe...or Josephine...as John Steffes discussed the process)?

freeTether was one of the homebrew apps I showed her and she said she didn't see it in the App Cat ...I explained to her that she would need to install preware to get it....

she seemed interested in learning more about what I touched on....I remember her saying that she wasn't interested in any of the other platforms out there so I felt she would follow thru on my advice and check out this site for the welt of info we provide

Cribbage Board was released free enyo 2 app on July 5th and has just over 3600 downloads. It's nowhere near a must have, but it's a decent measure. On the paid front, the numbers get far worse. I'm not going to share sales data, but I'll say that the ratio from paid apps this year to paid apps last year in sales for myself is about 50 to 1 (it's actually even worse than that, but I DID put out more volume last year. which is why it's a rough guessstimate).

So for a free non-must-have app, it's got 3600 downloads since July. Let's say 30% of active users downloaded Cribbage Board -- if 15% are non-unique, that puts the unique download mark at roughly 3,000. I doubt every active user downloaded it, but I also doubt there's a buttload of people out there downloading apps.

In other news, Wild'n Video Poker free, released in July '11, hit ~38k about 6 months ago. Then, it slowly passed 40k and is currently sitting around 41-42k. Therefore, I think the 3,000 number is good min number, and the ceiling is somewhere around 10k.

    I haven't downloaded it yet....
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...

Not in my case..... we have 10 webOS devices in various levels of use, many of them phones with "secondary" profiles to keep from wiping our daily use devices.

I have a Pre 2 using friend who doesn't really know about it (he just uses it)

    So that's +1 to non-webOS Nation users

No matter what the total number of current users is, the one thing that's certain is that the user base, along with the developer base, is shrinking.

I mean, I love WebOS too, but let's not kid ourselves. Once our current WebOS devices quit working, most of us will pick up an iOS or Android replacement. For lack of another choice, if nothing else.

I pop in every now and then. Still use my Pre 2 as an MP3 player.... What peaked my interest to check back in today, is the news about LG working on a webOS TV.. Well, it is October, so zombies are free to roam

Its good to see former users still interested in webOS....like a well lit campfire that just keeps smothering all night....

A small chip of wood will spark it right back to life....

    LG could be that chip??

Well, maybe that is also a bit your own fault? You don't even tell in the description of your app Cribbage Board what it is. Not to be rude, but why should I download/pay for an app without a proper description? I want to know what it is before I'd lke to try it. Yes, there is Google but that shouldn't be needed.
If you'd fix that I'd probably buy it just to support you 'cause I do think you make great apps nonetheless

Not really, actually. So my Pre 3 died and I now have a Motorola Razr I with Android 4.x You're right about that. But that's only for my phone. Once my Touchpad dies I'd wait for either a new tablet with webOS or some tablet on which it could be installed (as long as Preware is available). If not, then chances are slim I'd pick up a replacement. For phones I don't really care but with tablets it's webOS or nothing (maybe Ubuntu but slim chance) for me.

Interesting, I am just the opposite, If my pre2 two breaks I have another in the box and if that breaks I will buy another one. Touchpad, I can take it or leave it. Plus before lunaCE I thought the touchpad version of webos really sucked

I just opened up the catalog....because I had to see this for myself. I gave him the idea to make this up for me, we have a few crib boards in our home, but I thought it would be fun to be able to use my TouchPad for keeping score. I had also looked in Google Play for something similar, and couldn't find one.

    Under Description it reads:

    "replacement for physical cribbage board"

The screenshots show a cribbage board....

What more do you need to describe it? It seems pretty self-explanatory to me
Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

Thinking it may be a regional/language thing since he is from across the pond, from the name alone I figured that was exactly what it was.
