lots of discussion going about who should buy webOS. While it seemed HP was a good choice back then, it seems it was a bad buyer now. So, who do you think should not be a new buyer?

The 2 mostly likely, well-established and best-motivated - Samsung and HTC dropped out.

That IMHO leaves us (with much reduced chances) with:
Dell, Sony - possibly Lenovo, Acer, ASUS.

A potential buyer needs to be big enough to finance a second reboot and get through a tough couple of years. And highly motivated to enter the mobile market or expand it's mobile presence.
And motivated to control the platform instead of just working with Android or WP7.

I considered Samsung - by far - as the most likely combination of all relevant factors.
    Next came HTC.

After some distance Dell and Sony are plausible candidates - depending on how they evaluate the market and how much they are willing to risk short term for long term gain.

After that it gets really desperate.

    I predict 2 things:
    1) Amazon is not buying webos - that was just a silly rumor
    2) Nobody will license it (for smartphone/tablets - TV and such don't count). It'll be bought or it'll die. Nobody will care if HP is putting webos on printers or toasters.

No one should buy it. HP should just open source it.

i can't see them seeing much benefit in giving away something they paid a for. And if they aren't gonna make money i just don't see them doing such a thing.

...this kind of question is hard to take seriously as the question is so open ended. There are few players out there who could make a go with a mobile OS - and the list is getting shorter all the time.
