    Hi,

I'm trying to setup my Palm Pre 3 (all of my webOS devices have never worked, actually) to connect to my personal email server (IMAP and SMTP). IMAPv4 works fine but I have a problem sending email. I'm currently enforcing encryption and authentication on my SMTP server (Sendmail) but whenever my webOS device tries to connect, it fails and I get the following log entries in my log file:

    Oct 6 23:42:55 legacy sendmail[7916]: STARTTLS=server, relay=[192.168.1.155], version=TLSv1/SSLv3, verify=NO, cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits=256/256
Oct 6 23:42:55 legacy sendmail[7916]: p975gsOq007916: [192.168.1.155] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

(192.168.1.155 is my Pre 3's IP address.)

    and

    Oct 6 23:42:02 legacy sendmail[7864]: STARTTLS=server, error: accept failed=0, SSL_error=5, errno=0, retry=-1, relay=[192.168.1.155]
Oct 6 23:42:02 legacy sendmail[7864]: p975eASk007864: [192.168.1.155] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to TLSMTA

I've added the sendmail certificate to the Certificates Manager so that shouldn't be a problem. Can anyone help? I've had this problem since my Pre- (then Pre 2 and TouchPad and now Pre 3).

Does the Pre3/Touchpad show any error messages?

Sorry if high-jack the thread but my Pre3 wont validate outgoing server settings if I turn encryption on (SSL/port465). Been working fine on my old Pre and the server got a valid Verisign cerfiticate. Do I need to install a cerfiticate on the Pre3 too?

Thanks for the tip. The Error was a 507 User authentication problem. It turned out I hadn't start saslauthd. Now sendmail is happily accepting email relay requests for authenticated users.

    Thanks!

This is a server-side issue and is particular to the setup that I have on my server. Essentially, I have sendmail functioning as the mail relay and I've configured it to require authentication before accepting Outgoing email. saslauthd is another application sendmail uses to handle authentication.
