With all of this talk about what happened with WebOS, one thing that many of us love about WebOS phones has been the gesture area. Now, if you think about it, the gesture area is really just a non-display area that is still sensitive to touch controls(plus the LED notification).

With this in mind, the gesture area could have been made to be at the bottom of any slab/tablet device, it would just be at the bottom(customizable), and since the devices can already change based on screen orientation, the gesture area could have been kept for tablets. I don't see how it WOULDN'T work, just make the background for that area black, even with a pseudo-LED notification in it. With that in place, you would get a more consistent UI between tablet/slab devices and versions with a physical keyboard.
