So look at all the website
Engadget, mynext.com, precentral, webOSroundup and read people's comment. The whole planet seem to be abuzz with what Leo A said at all thing D, that H/P may license webOS.

Everyone is talking so positive for WebOS, the last time I heard people talk like this was Jan 2009 when pre was introduced.

What do you guys think, would news like this make the developers and customers accept webOS?
If this helped you hit thanks.

HTC or Motorola's hardware + HP(alm) controlling the experience (and hopefully updates) would be phenomenal.

You would have to, considering their bootloader policies.

i think that's the only way webos can survive...

because they wont sell the volume of units by offering such a specialized 'cute' phone as the veer and the pre3. they didnt make a slab so they obviously dont know what the majority of people want or what will bring in major developer support... let htc and samsung and rest make the type of phones people want and drop webos in it.

    good decision leo.

It's not even a given that they will work with a third-party manufacturer yet. I really don't see the reason for excitement. I guess "the whole internet" doesn't know Leo "I won't announce products unless they are weeks from release" Apotheker.

I would hope that HP takes the ODM approach and doesn't just let licenses out whilly nilly

It gives the tech media hope. Many in the tech press love webOS but absolutely hate palm's hardware and I can't blame them. The veer as nice as it is should have an internal headphone jack and a better camera and there is no excuse that it doesn't, and the sad thing is this is palm's best built phone in years.

You never know. HP Discover is next week and we have yet to hear what's coming for the second half of the year. I really think HP might be considering teaming up with a select few partners to get a slew of devices on the market before holiday 2011

its a given, i just heard John speak at qualcomm and they asked him the same question about licensing. and he said there are one or two special manufactures out there that they feel would extend the webos experience.
but he didnt announce which ones. he did mention that he did not want a he did not want a device with a android, windows, and webos version. so i maybe if they do license webos products they will be unique designs its seems...

From what HP and Palm have said in the past they may be taking a ODM or very tight licensing approach, a la windows phone 7

It's really not a bad thing. It has been more than a year now and we only have one "low end" device to show for it so far.

I don't think HP would allow a third party to lock down their platform like that. HP and Palm have prided themselves on being not only dev friendly but also hacker friendly

never said that was a bad thing.. its actually an excellent thing.. when that group grows, so does webOS, features get added and bugs get squashed
