Does anyone know a way I can get Google Talk to re-connect automatically after signal loss?

The bathrooms at work don't get decent signal. Every time I go in I lose signal, which isn't a big deal except that I get logged out of Google Talk. On my Pre- with 1.4.5, that wasn't a problem as it would usually log me back in shortly after regaining signal. On my FrankenPre2 (VZW donor) running 2.0.1, it never logs me back in. I usually don't realize this until halfway through the day when I get an email from someone who would usually just chat me. I can manually set myself back to Available to re-login every time, but that's really annoying and I don't remember to do it.

Does anyone know a way I can fix this?

I have the same problem with a Sprint Pre- running 2.1. I even installed the synergy messaging plugins and tried using that gtalk client. No dice.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ah, yes, from the source code for the IM Transport service, we have something like:
Code:
if (!ConnectionState::hasInternetConnection())
{
                MojLogInfo(IMServiceApp::s_log, _T("handleConnectionChanged no connection. setting all accounts offline"));
.....
                mergeProps.putString("state", LOGIN_STATE_OFFLINE);
......
}
So, yes, once you lose both Wifi AND Cell Data, you go offline.

And it stays that way unless you do connect again.

It would be a nice addition for Sconix patches, I don't think it belongs to the messaging plugins

. This wasn't the case in 1.4.5, was it?

Hi,

Any news on this? I have the same problem since I updated to 2.1.0 and I really rely on gtalk for personal and work.

Any idea on how to fix it?

Thanks

We all have it, and there's a potential fix being worked on.

Sorry to bump this

I'm using a Pre 2 ver 2.1.0 and I can't get Gtalk to change from offline no matter how many times I tap Available, Busy or Sign off.

Does anyone know how to force it to sign in again without a long reboot?

I always have to reboot when it does that. Not sure if just a luna restart would fix it, I haven't tried

Get ready for linux lessons:

The problem is that the purple transport service gets stuck somehow. You have to kill it in order to get gtalk to work again:

Download xterm for you device

Open xterm

Inside xterm type: ps ax | grep imlib

The | (pipe) symbol appears pressing SHIFT and the dot (.) at the same time.

Check the output, the first number in the imlibpurpletransport related line is the PID (process ID), you have to kill it.

Type kill number (where number is tha number on the first column in the previous sentence).

After this, google will try and connect successfully again.

Anyone figured out a more permanent fix for this? It'd driving me crazy.

I've been having this same trouble on my Veer. Having to suffer through the interminable reboot just because of a signal hiccup, to reconnect to GTalk, is ridiculous.

C'Mon, HP, fix this up quickly. There are too many other options out there to put up with buggy software. When I try the Palmchat (hey, I hoped), all they can recommend is reset the IM account or reboot the phone.

Can you give us some details on this potential fix? Who is working on it, and what is the name of the patch/tweak/app we should be watching for?

Thanks

Worrying HP is focusing on the new webOS version only. 2.1 may be the last version for existing devices.
