call me crazy or whatever but I bought 5k worth of palm stock like 2 days ago...
It seems a lot of people see the company as worthless but I believe there is a lot of potential and only the future will tell...
I am prepared to lose it all or have it be a really profitable investment, so no harm done
I see webOS as a great phone OS, even though I absolutely love Android and feel very unsure about Iphone OS (again personal preference).
my mobile story (dont read it might be boring and long hah!)
I never owned an iphone, yet I had everyone around me use it daily and I have to say it works well and does the job, but I am a bit of a nerd and like to tinker the crap out of any device I own...
When I first started out, I was a windowsOS FAN!... even since the original ipaq compaq with the big grayscale stylus screen :-D... then I moved on to sample the windows mobile side of things with NO touch screen, like the motorola Q... again I loved the flexibility of windows mobile but hated the performance.
A few years ago I had tried my first blackberry... and it was the complete opposite, the phone was SOLID in terms of usability but lacked in "tinkering" abilities - couldn't really make it feel "personal" - but it was the most efficient phone I ever owned... never skipped a beat.
More recently, I had owned a Tmobile G1- 1st android phone- it was AMAZING.. the flexability of the phone in terms of personalization and the efficiency of which it ran.. It was awesome - I had it rooted and hacked every part of the OS.
Then... WebOS came...and I was ... fascinated .. intrigued... and I said.. why not? At first, the device seemed very capable, excluding the hardware feel, the OS was smooth, easy on the eyes, and best of all it felt personal. There were a lot of "why did they do this/didnt do this" moments, yet I felt the constant updates made it better and better.
So you may be thinking, this guy loving both android and webos... whats the deal? I think webOS has HUGE potential in markets outside of mobile phones... for example, I drive about 2-3 hrs every day...spend a lot of time on the road, and I have a nice touchstone mount on my dash that basically has my palm pre right in my face, non obstructed just like those built in-car nav units. And let me tell you guys, the EASE of using a multitasking "card" system while driving is, in my personal opinion, extremely efficient and pleasurable. I mean, if you think about it, what more would you need if you have 4-5 cards open with Nav, Pandora, SMS (dont txt while u drive ), tether/mobile hotspot, WHATEVER! you can SWITCH and manage with very little effort, no taking your eyes off the road looking through menus and other tabs, just pure swipe and tap...swipe and tap... it to me feels very natural.
This realization had led me to see the true potential of webOS, not just as a phone OS but MULTI-DISCIPLINARY DEVICE OS that can run on a built-in car system, can run on your TVs/CABLE/SATELLITE/TABLET PCs.... Imagine, 50 inch flat screen display with hand-gesture recognition technology combined with a card system... 5 channels open at the same time.. no more "surfing" through channels but "swiping" -- again point is A LOT OF POTENTIAL.

Its this flexibility that makes webOS stand out from the crowd of other great OS like the iphone and android and even blackberry OS.

Whether you make any money on PALM probably depends on when Palm is acquired and at what price. I would agree with some that it is the ultimate casino stock. I think you're in for a wild and interesting ride.
What do you mean by commitment? it's not a case of keeping your local football team out of trouble, it's a phone!

Why would you want to tell everyone the phones you have bought over the years, what has that got to do with buying shares in a company. I buy shares if they look a good bet and Palm don't look that good a bet.

I'm right with you. I bought $1,300 worth a few weeks ago and really see it paying off. It makes you think differently about your phone than a casual user.

The only downside is that when I try to talk my friends into giving the Pre a shot, they assume I'm just trying to help my stock, instead of looking out for their needs.

congrats.. i think you made a good choice! And sorry to say to everyone else... to me the stock market is no different then going to Atlantic City and placing it on Black.. at least you have a ~49% chance of doubling your money. Just a bunch of guys in North Jersey that know the "system" ... if your in.. your in.. if not... your one of us just waiting to get lucky. Heck everyone that i work with saw their 401k get cut in 1/2 a few years ago.

Your doing the right thing... use money that if you lost... wouldn't hurt you anyway.

well I tought about it like this, palm has a great product... They just need a chance to really make a difference... And I think they can.
I'm not investing because it's a safe bet or because it's doing poorly... I'm investing b/c I like to support products that I think are worth supporting. If you like something you should support it...simple!
this is similar to people who like bmw or audi and all they buy are those cars.. Nothing wrong with loyalty.

Bad Move. I was going to buy some and my financial guy talked me out of it. He said "go to a casino, you'll have a better chance of keeping your money."

I just sold my shares yesterday, had 416 .. ended up losing around $300. Luckily Apple, Google and Priceline have me way into the +.
