The Wall Street Journal is reporting Google will be releasing it's own phone device next year called "Nexus one".

This appears to me a slap in the face to cell phone manufactures that have adopted android into their handsets. Motorola in particular will most likely be hardest hit having to directly compete with google handsets.

Palm on the other hand, like Apple, not only controls their hardware but also the operating system. This alone ensures Palm can control their own destiny.

What may very well happen is cell phone manufactures will seek to diversify their handsets with other operating systems (WebOS) in order not to be squeezed out.

2010 looks to be very interesting for Palm and WebOS. Look for hopefully a new handset to be announced possibly as early as this week.

Palm needs to integrate WebOS to other portals and not rely on Google to release new features.

I belive some of the homebrew patches address different portals but it would be "hot" if WebOS started to officially integrate these patches.

Word of advice to Palm: don't rely on google to advance WebOS. Start integrating Portals/Services/Apps ASAP.

With the architeture of WebOS designed specifically for the web, what the heck are we waiting for!!!

I read this article and it seems a bit fishy to me...if Google does this, then they will be shooting their Android efforts right in the face.

From what I have read, Google will be making their own branch of Android to support this new Google Phone. That simply means that the Android the other manufacturers are making will be watered down in comparison.

Google definitely wants to take over the digital world. It seems to me that Android is the better way to do that...not a Google Phone. Time will tell I guess.

This phone could mean they are becoming "self aware"

Phone is still made by HTC. But i guess Skynet/Google tells em what to put in it.
