The problem: I want to view photo files of rail maps on my Palm Pre. After realising that the viewer wouldn't trouble itself with GIF files, I saved them off as high res JPGs (files sizes around 600k).

The trouble is that when I zoom in to them on the Pre the station names are all blurry - in other words unusable. I had the same problem with my Android G1 phone, but my trusty old Palm Treo 650 and Centro had no problem showing the images in their full crisp glory (via Resco Viewer).

Is there any way around this?

Are you sure you're waiting long enough? I have some larger jpegs I imported from my computer and they take a lot longer to render. The other thing is to double-tap the screen to zoom in to actual size in just 1 step, rather than the pinch-zoom. That way it doesn't try to re-render intermediate sizes as you're pinch-zooming in multiple steps.

Yes. I did all of the above and got the same result: a slightly fuzzy image that rendered the (admittedly small) station names unreadable.
