    Search online a bit for vi commands. Helped me a bunch.

    So, I assume you typed:
    Vi /folder/path/filename (insert appropriate path and file).

    Then use arrow keys to scroll down to see the lines of code.
    At the line you want, type i
    Then insert, delete, etc...to make your change.

    When done, hit ESC to leave insert mode.
    Then just type :wq
    :wq saves the file and quits editing. Then reboot.

    Good luck

    /* Copyright 2009 Palm, Inc. All rights reserved. */

    var BarAssistant = Class.create({

    setup: function() {

    this.showMSMWarning = false;
    this.showMediaWarning = false;
    this.isUSBConnected = false;
    this.inBrickMode = false;
    this.isInitialQuery = false;
    this.airplaneModeInitialQueryDone = false;
    this.carrierText = "Palm";

    this.bluetoothState = 'Off';

    $('rssi').className = 'nobars';

    when i edit using vi, the file name and line numbers are on the bottom of my terminal window, ex:

    /* Copyright 2009 Palm, Inc. All rights reserved. */

    var BarAssistant = Class.create({

    setup: function() {

    this.showMSMWarning = false;
    this.showMediaWarning = false;
    this.isUSBConnected = false;
    this.inBrickMode = false;
    this.isInitialQuery = false;
    this.airplaneModeInitialQueryDone = false;
    this.carrierText = "Palm";

    this.bluetoothState = 'Off';
    this.wifiState = 'Off';
    this.wifiRadio = false;

    $('rssi').className = 'nobars';
    $('datanet').className = 'off';
    $('wifi').className = 'off';
    $('bluetooth').className = 'off';
    $('roaming').hide();
    $('tty').hide();
    $('callforward').hide();
    - bar-assistant.jsjsjs [$Readonly$] $1$/$3531$ $0$%

    to go to a line number, enter : (colon) xx (where xx is the line number)

    in order to edit, change to insert mode by typing 'i', when done, hit esc. (this puts you in command mode where you can go to a line # with ':', search with '/', or enter a save ':w' or save and quit ':wq')

    there are innumerable vi guides, but here is a basic cheat sheet:
