at the top-right corner of the main display on my pre there are icons in the following order (from right to left)....
1. battery
2. voice signal strength
3. data indicator (EVDO vs. WiFi)
4. an icon that looks like a POTS handset on top of nine dots arranged in a square

what is this "nine dots" symbol? i looked at screencaps from a few different reviews and none of those showed this symbol. will somebody please enlighten me?

TIA,
ben

This indicates that you turned on TTY/TDD. This is teletype for the hearing impaired.

Open Phone -> Preferences -> Accessibility -> TTY/TDD Toggle to Off.

I have to ask. How is it that so many people accidentally turn this on without realizing and then get confused by the icon? I feel like there's been someone asking about this every week, and it's not exactly the thing that's easy to switch on and off- you have to go into the menu to do it.
