I just noticed that "auto back ups" is fixed to the on position. You have to login to your palm profile in order to shut it off. If you try to do so, it warns all your data will be removed from the server and your data will no longer be auto saved.

Any chance this could be a factor to the battery draining so quickly? I wonder how often it is auto backing up in the background. I wish you could set it to do this manually in stead of all or none.

Yes, and it is only once per day. I doubt it could drain the battery.

I'm not sure, but I turned it off since I just sync of my gmail contacts and calendars. Why would Palm need a backup app on the Pre, if they are pushing people to use Synergy with Google and MS Exchange?

They are backing up Notes, Tasks, and extra contact fields that are not backup elsewhere (Google or Exchange). I *think* they might also be backing up your non ROM applications as well as music, video and document files.

Why would it be backing up extra contact fields? Google syncs to most, if not all of the contact fields. Why did Palm think it was a good idea not to have desktop sync software? We have to connect the Pre to a computer when we want to sync media on our phones.

Google does not sync pictures, birthdays, anniversary's and a couple other obscure fields.

Your 2nd question has already been debated to death in about 400 other threads.

How did I get pictures and birthdays on my Pre using Gmail contacts/calendars without uploading uploading to Palm Profile?
