oh, Palm is getting cocky... me like

    As for the iPhone:

It's much slower; Rubinstein and his team say that's because the OS X code is not lean enough to run swiftly on a mobile device's relatively tiny processor and small memory footprint. And you can only do one thing at a time.

Well, they do have a good point. The iPhone's big selling point was that its a desktop software setup on your phone. Palm is doing what to me is makes quite a bit more sense, and making it specifically for a handheld. I realize that with processor speed being what it is, it might not matter as much, but Palm's way of doing it seems more efficient to me. Not to mention its always easier to add on to an operating system than it is to pare it down.

and actually doesn't allow users to run desktop-level multi-tasking.

what a shame, Greedy business model is suffocating capable hardware and software. So apple.

I have a ipod touch and just for fun installed HandBase on it. I have one database with about 11,000 records that I use for work. On my Treo800w it takes about 5 seconds to open (which I consider quite slow). On the iphone it takes over 30 seconds. So it would appear that the iphone hardware, ram and OS is not up to the task. I cant wait to see how fast it opens on the Pre!

Actually, the iPod Touch's CPU is 130 mHz higher than that of the Treo Pro's if I remember correctly. (530mHz vs 400mHz).

So what you're seeing is almost definitely a function of either slower software from HandBase, or the OS is using up most of the resources.

Clock speed means nothing when comparing CPU's of different architecture.

I think his/her point was it could be a software issue (from handbase).

Either way, I don't know or care.... lol... just pointing it out.

Palm is doing a lot of TALKING.... I'll wait for the rubber to hit the road....
