It looks like HP has removed the SDK/PDK (almost).

I went to download a copy of the Pre (1.4.5) emulator today to take care of some troubleshooting, and found that the SDK download page now just 404s out. Fortunately, Google comes to the rescue!

SDK-PDK Download - HP webOS Developer Center (Google Cache)

While the page may be gone, the files are still available from the download servers. I'll post them here - you may want to grab these while you still can.

Send as much email to pdc@palm.com, their support group for HP/Palm support...

Ask them to continue support for their users?

Done! I hope that the rest of the developers will join me too.

    @Aressel and John Steffes,

    Thanks!

    ...

    Update:

Archive.org has made a backup of this page and many others (documentation), however it is up to us to keep a doomsday archive of all Doctors and emulator images, as well as the open source packages that Palm has released when it used GPL code to build portions of the OS.

That said, as someone who has dug through the documentation and found dead links (URLs that point to the wrong directory trees) and upon investigating those, found the original page but also a sister page with slightly different information (same subject in different context), i'm still worried... this is a wake-up call for me, to spider the docs before they are taken down and then try to dig up those "easter egg" pages that may have escaped being indexed/archived.

Sure, i have better things to do, but the docs have been a lifesaver on many occasions even if they are convoluted and not always in best form... i hope they'll stay up for another month or two..

Do you think this could be in preparation for a change over to Open Webos in the near future?

    No.

HP still has the rights and obligations to the Legacy devices and has washed its hands of Open webOS. LG owns that now, and Enyo is being funded by both companies.

But there's no good reason for them to take down the SDK. If they want to prevent any new app from being submitted to the App Catalog, they should just say so and not play childish games.

i thought HP had obligations for cloud services but LG also bought the old webOS as they needed parts of the proprietary code contained in the old webOS?

    Not Legacy

LG bought the rights to use proprietary code that was stripped out of Open, but they have not bought webOS v.1.4 - 3.0.5 proper. Those are published ROMs that shipped on devices built by Palm GBU, and for as long as Palm remains a part of HP, Legacy will stay under their care.

Blarg, that's annoying. They can't leave us old-timers the bits needed to have fun with code? Sure, toss out the old Enyo, but where would you find replacement for IPK packager, profiler, and other miscellaneous, device tools? I bet they're going to disable app submissions next. (I think, and hope I still have a backup of SDK 3.0.5 somewhere.) BTW, open source packages are hosted on the Open webOS site, so hopefully they won't disappear any time soon (and if they do, we can always make a claim to get the source code under the GPL).

Could anyone who made a backup of these files post the sha256sums?
Apps (they're all free now): Explorer for Dropbox – a Dropbox app for webOS that actually works (TP+phones), 3-panel-interface
File Explorer – fast and simple file manager (root support on webOS 3)
QuickChat for Facebook – real-time Facebook chat (broken)
Archive Manager – extract and create archives (zip, rar, 7z, …)
FTPit! – full-featured FTP client for webOS
e-mail (contact, support) – if you like what I'm doing, feel free to (alternatively in USD)

Are you referring to the sdk installs and emulator images? I can look through what I have. I've kept many versions of the SDK install and emulator images, however unfortunately disorganized. )

Yes, I mean the files listed in the first post, so that we'll be able to identify the original files should they shut down their servers and "alternative" means of downloading the files should come up.
Though I might just download the most important ones within the next few days so that I have a backup myself.

    Same here.

I have the Palm SDK and the Touchpad SDK (win32) as well as 3 or 4 emulator images. I'll post the checksums sometime in the next day or two when i get the correct hard drive out of a box in the closet.

Totally agree that it's not classy at all of HP to just quietly kill the links.

Considering how links and pages have been shuffled around over time and considering how the SDK download link is currently conspicuously not actually a link while the rest of the links on the dev resources page seem to be working, it looks like more than just an oversight.

The dev forums have been vandalized with spam for quite a while now - obviously that gives (reinforces?) the impression that HP just doesn't care.

I've got old SDK's on disks as well (unorganized and incomplete, and I doubt I kept most of the 3.0 EAP betas).

How about the old Eclipse plugins? Only way I ever knew to get them was off the CDN, and I'm not Eclipse savvy enough to know how to locally archive those. (Not that I used them heavily but maybe some folks who did would prefer they not just disappear unannounced.)

Phew! Glad I dumped all the SDK parts I needed before they got the chance to remove them forever...

Being an eclipse guy I also dumped the update site for local usage Here it is for anyone interested: http://www.filedropper.com/webossdkeclipse_1
