I want to write an app that will execute system commands. It needs to write a text file and copy some files around. I have no idea how to do that with html/javascript. Can someone point me at what I need to do?

You can do that with a Service .. bit of a black art, though. Plenty of help to be had in the official dev forum for that, though ...

Apps like Govnah, Preware and Dr.Battery are doing it.
    In the old days it was done with a service written in "c". Now you can do it with a node.jsjsjs $service$ ($which$ $needs$ $to$ $get$ $unjailed$ $I$ $think$ $EDIT$: $if$ $you$ $need$ $access$ $to$ $some$ $other$ $place$ $than$ /$media$/$internal$).

That depends on which shell commands you need. I think /usr/bin is available, not sure, am sure though that sbin is not.
