Try setting the compcache memlimit to 32MB, see if that works. If you haven't used compcache yet, first set the memlimit and tap apply, then set compcache to true and tap apply again.

The first tap on apply is not needed when turning compcache on.

The key concept is that you can only change the memlimit when compcache is unloaded. To unload it, you need to toggle the button to off and hit apply.

But if it's already unloaded you can enable and set the memlimit together and then hit apply once.

I guess I asked this all wrong. I know WHAT it is, I guess I should have asked WHY and what purpose does it serve on a handset like this? Wouldn't it damage the phone and shorten the life of it?

Similar answer - which of the other 15 existing threads about overclocking have you read so far? Or the articles on precentral.net or webosroundup ...

Quite a few actually. Here's a list from my history. Most of these did nothing to help me.

There is absolutely no need for you to be a <<edited by mod>> to me. I respect your work, but you can't be respectful towards someone interested in figuring out more who doesn't have time to sit on this forum all day every day? Reading 10 threads over and over, as well as *your* site, and not being versed enough in the programming and development of cellphone software is why I ask a stupid question which extensive searching did not answer properly. I know now that giving a crap about expanding my knowledge base and being in any way interested in furthering what you do was a waste of your time.

Forget I even asked. Not worth your time. Got it.

I am not sure its a good idea to give "Idiots" a guide to overclocking.

I know that I've previously posted a number of messages about the possible downsides of using overclocking to increase the speed of your device.

I have quoted figures from the manufacturer's datasheets which predict a reduction of device lifetime by over 50% when going from 500MHz or 720 MHz, and you can extrapolate that further for 800MHz and higher.

Don't take the responses personally - just note that you're posting this question in a thread that is in the WebOS Development forum ...

My next question would be...are removing the uberkernel and the govna the same steps except reverse? Are there any conflicts with an apps or patches?
  16. #56
the hypercard animation patch coupled with uber-kernel makes the phone feel really snappy

that will be a great day after the "testing" is completed of course

Reading this post, and the ones preceding it, I was curious enough to go back through this thread to see if the answers to your questions were right here. (I didn't bother to reread the other overclocking threads which I know answer these questions over and over again.) Anyway, the seventh post in this thread basically covered all your questions in simple, non-technical language. Apart from that, the Govnah thread contains a link to a wiki which describes potential dangers in more detail.

I think your post failed to draw much help because you asked the most basic and broad questions which left no indication that you had done any independent research. As in most areas of life, people like to help others who have at least attempted to help themselves. You did not provide any evidence that you had attempted to help yourself at all. It's unfortunate that you were offended but asking for the accumulated wisdom of much time and many threads to be distilled just for you is bound to get a terse response.

If you really read all of those threads and didn't understand any of what you read (which seems unlikely to me), what's to say that having someone repeat the same information again will be at all helpful?

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.

BTW, I challenge anyone to show me another mobile platform which allows you to patch your operating system and even change the kernel OTA at will without loosing any of your data or needing to restore anything afterwards.

Preware rocks, even if I do say so myself

There is something better than preware and webOS, and it is called iOS. How many phones will allow you to manually block the signal from its antenna? Yup...that's right, only the iphone 4, running iOS closed crap.
